... The usual animals came up
but when we got to the giraffe pen the man driving the cart told us that he
would stop so that we could feed them. I had to ask him again what he said and
yes you’re allowed to feed most of the animals here. My inner six year old
burst out. Begging Aaron for money to buy food then barraging my way to the
front of the queue to get the food and then I’m not proud of this but pushing
... Johnny. Johnny seems like a really awesome guy. He's bubbly and friendly and seems to have done a fair bit of travelling, so we had a bit to talk about in our break. So much so that I was a little late going back to my classroom to prepare for my last two lessons. The last two lessons flew by too, which was made even better by the fact that my kids are finally starting to understand the concept I've been trying to teach to them ...
... looked through the windows and not one other taxi was giving their passengers such a joyous experience. By the time we got to the hostel our ears were ringing from the sound of dj cabby's tunes. We asked ourselves if it was worth it. After all we only saved a fiver...... Of course it was. We dropped our bags off and headed straight to khoason road. Backpacker Mecca. It truly is an assault on the senses. Delicious smells of street food, followed by not so nice ...
... walked down Khao San Road. It had changed less and was more recognisable to me than its surrounding streets, still with tons of neon signs, market stalls, street hawkers, annoying tuk-tuk drivers and some familiar bars. The official backpacker attire of fishermans pants, available on every stall in the street in 2004, has been replaced by elephant pants in 2015, there are a lot more edible bugs for sale and the music of choice has changed from Bob Marley to pounding EDM. ...
... However, we did get here and I got to see quite a bit of Bangkok in the process. Stacey, who came in from a different airport, had basically the same experience, so we have vowed to use public transport (which is apparently quite good) from now on.
The place where we're staying is, for me, a little like flying first class. There is a shower and a bath, fluffy towels, bathrobes, free water and snacks, lovely toiletries, two TVs, no ants, air conditioning, telephones, ...
