... and witness both the epicentres of industrial endeavour and the dumping grounds of its waste. What makes the photographs so powerful is his refusal in them to be didactic. We are all implicated here, they tell us: there are no easy answers. The film continues this approach of presenting complexity, without trying to reach simplistic judgements or reductive resolutions. In the process, it tries to shift our consciousness about the world and the way we live in it. 2006, Canada, 90 mins.
Ningbo, Zhejiang, China happysheep... a major production centre for small and micro bearings. Like most Chinese cities in South China, this too is a city vibrating with life. NIght life is active with numerous KTV bars in operation and alongwith Chinese restaurants, the city has a fair no of KFC's , Mcdonnells and Pizza Huts. Continental food however is mainly restricted to restaurants in hotels.

We were actually there during typhoon season which was interesting as the wind was strong, there was a lot of rain and we were actually lucky to get out of the country seeing as they'd shut down a lot of the surrounding airports... but anyway, my first trip to China was very enjoyable and definately a learning experience on a work and cultural level!

I slowly made my way around it and found the door ways etc that I had found last night in the fading light. Whilst I was taking a picture I heard someone say, 'that's a beautiful door'. I looked over to find a young foreign guy. He ...

They know all of their neighbors, not because it is common in China to know one's neighbors, but because this particular group of neighbors has communally decided to take care of a stray dog.
