Nilsia Kuopio

Blaah, vielä 2 viikkoa. Plan yksinkertaisuudessaan: Lento lähtee Helsingistä ma 30. päivä, seuraavana päivänä ollaan jo etelä-Amerikassa. Galapagossaaret, Macchu Picchu, Cotopaxi.. Paljon muitakin paikkoja, joista olisi tarkoitus yrittää kertoa jotain sitten tässä blogin tapaisessa, jotta reissusta jää jotain kirjallistakin muistiin.

Exploring the town of Kuopio. A place with a hill large enough to house a ski jump! It appears Kuopio has hosted world championship ski jump competitions. Having never seen a ski jump, it was very impressive. We caught up with the brother of the friends we are visiting for lunch in Kuopio. The town hall looked cool, with a small market operating in the square opposite. From here, we made our way to the summer cottage.

Arrived safely in Kuopio. The train ride wasn't a direct travel job, needing to change about the 3 hour mark (I cannot remember the town at this stage, will have to look at the ticket). The train ride was great. The trains are very tidy, and either had a food cart, or a mobile food cart. Although Shellie and I were too tired to really take advantage of them, preferring to just buy some water! What can I say, but Finland ...

... un moyen de l arreter. Nous etions que 2 dans l hostel. Impossible de contacter la receptionniste. Alors j ai appeler le 112. Et il on envoyer 4 pompiers avec un camion... J etais un peu mal a l aise.. Mais ils ont dite que nous avions bien fais, car l eau coulait dans le corridor.. et tout et tout...

I went to the world biggest sauna in Kuopio, which is a huge traditional smoke sauna with an amazing view over the vast lake (which was frozen) and I hole cut out in the ice to jump in after the sauna, which was extremly cold and a bit of shock to the system

... gracias para tiempo loco! We will meet again! The Herrasmanni camping-will-stop-party is not untill the weekend. And there are definately more interesting and beautiful places to see around here. But when it rains it is just no fun at all! So decided to go back to my 'home away from home' already. Drink a tea with Lom and Mörri again! If I hurry I might just be in time for the 19.00 o'clock sauna!

... end up watching the local crew play ice hockey. Next stop: The Bowling center! Have not done this for ages. I think we drove the other more quiet bowlers a bit crazy with our screams after yet another Strike or Pair! With 124 and 112 points I think we did not do too bad ;-))) Time to meet up with Simone to shop for beer and sausages and Salmiakki Kostenkorva! We decided to have proper ...

... high and the observation deck is 224 m (735ft) above the Kallavesi lake and 306 m (1000ft) above sea level. There is a restaurant on the 2nd tower floor which has a rotating floor that takes you around the tower approx. once per hour sadly not faster for a whirl pool in your soup. There is cafe on the 3rd floor and up one more flight of stairs is an open air viewing platform for the best views. Back to Helsinki tomorrow...

On this day, we also were lucky, because we had the chance to see the Northern lights (the French wording for them is nicer - Aurores Boréales or Lumières de la nuit) and could cath them with our cameras ;) Just coming out of the sauna, standing in the ice-cold lake and someone was looking up and telling us to look up as well and there they were, in green! All in all, these holidays were really cool and we've seen soo many things, I am just happy, that we did it :)
