We arrived by overnight train to Aswan which has surprisingly not a lot to do in the town itself. We stayed at the Nile Hotel which was decent, but obviously arranged by Go Bus tour group. The next morning we would have a wake up call of 2:30am, I repeat 2:30am for those that didn't quite catch that, to travel to Abu Simbel..home of Ramses' II …

Day 4 - We got to Aswan today at about 10.45am. The overnight train was disgusting and it definitely was not business class (as said in the brochure) in any way possible. Ahmed is our tour guide, he said the toilet was 7/10 in Egypt, in Australia the train would be in a museum by now.... We have all upgraded to the Sleeper Carriage for the train …

Apparently, assigned seating is a strictly western phenomenon. We shoved our way onto the 10 pm train to Aswan when it arrived at around 11:30.
