Salam aleyakum, habibis

... what you want madam - cotton - silk - how about me!' from a bloody cheeky GenY!! Of course its a ploy to get your attention & to make you stop, but its funny too - the haggling is really tiring and is a gaunlet at each & every stop, but a 'La Shukrun" (no thank you) does the trick - usually!

well habibis, its time to sign off - we're going to Kom Ombo this afternoon, and I need to get back - will try to catch-up with you when we next dock

Linny

The story so far...part 1!

... be avoided.

Any how, i was a bit shaken up but i forced myself to leave the hotel the next day and see Cairo. So I got a taxi to Khan El Khalili bazaar in what's known as Islamic Cairo. I went at 6:30am because i couldn't sleep and i needed to get out of the hotel so when i got there it was very dull, there was nothing happening and it took about 2 seconds for a sales guy to start with the 'gameela-blue eyes! i like you!' **** but this time i knew how to get rid of him and much ...

All the old paintings on the tombs...

I thought that I should get the required Bangles lyrics out of the way early in the trip. Today seems like the right day since it included reading hieroglyphs, boating on the Nile and even a few puffs on the hookah or shesha pipe.

All the old paintings on the tombs, They do the sand dance don't you know
If they move too quick (oh whey oh), They're falling down like a domino

All the bazaar men by the Nile, They got ...

Bargain, bargain, bargain

Aswan is a good place to base yourself in in southern Egypt as there is a lot to things to see and do in the vicinity. We had another day in Aswan but we were given a mission by our tour leader, Mina.
As we were all on the Nile cruise boat, which we would board that afternoon, Mina had made plans for a galabeya party on the ship for our second night on the boat. First we needed galabeyas, which are traditional dress in Egypt. Basically its a dress, or night gown ...

Celine, quit biting Ricky Martin's bum

... quit biting Ricky Martin's bum." Not that she listened (such a diva) but it cracked me up.
Our camel ride was soon over and we had more scary moments when the camel kneeled down. It's basically a reverse of it standing up. It goes down on its front knees first, so you lurch forward. Again you only have the horn on the saddle to hold on to. Then it goes down on its back knees, which causes you to lurch backwards. But I survived and didn't fall off. Yeah!
Our day wasn't ...

Lovely, Lovely Aswan

... When we got down for breakfast, were greeted with such a lovely spread of salads, breads, juices. Breakfast was sumptious and we tucked in. Even when grouchy walked in to join us nearly half hour later, we were not dampened.

I wanted to walk around the hotel grounds and so Clarissa and I went whilst the rest packed. ... boring) home video of a cousin’s wedding and then told us the wonderful, culturally different and anything-but-boring story of how he met his fiancée.

Finally, we were dropped back onto the eastern side of the river and wandered down to the Cataract Hotel, where Agatha Christie wrote Death on the Nile, to watch the sun set over the felucca masts and desert hills. It had been a great day to say the least, but very tiring, and I desperately needed some sleep.
