... just as I remembered from nearly 20 years ago. Why hasn't Australia caught up with this trend?

Breakfast the next day was quick and early, as we were trying to beat the crowds at the Minoan Palace of Knossos. We stopped at a local cafe, N got Bougatsa (a custard filled pastry deliciousness), and I got a cheese one. We caught the bus and were at the Palace before most of the crowd, by the time we were 30 mins into our exploration, the tours arrived, and it ...

... was ash. Our tour guide toldus that much of the surrounding cliffs were very porous, so porous in fact that islanders were able to dig out caves to live in, sometimes with just their hands. Pumice is the rock that formed and the island of Santorini for years exported huge amounts of Pumice until the government halted the practice for fear of undermining the stability of the islands resources. ... of land with spacious landscape views. The property also isn't surrounded by other buildings which I like.

The hotels up in the Oia village are all tightly packed, fighting for a view of the caldera. I had initially booked something up in the village but at 4x the price as Pegalos, we decided to go cheap and will use the savings for nice dinners (with views) and some excursions like a semi-private boat ride that we want to do on Monday. ...

... which made the remainder of the hike particularly hot. I finally reached Oia some 5 hours after I started walking where I explored the town, took in the views, and ate a small snack. With the heat and my general exhaustion I opted to take the bus back to Fira instead of walking back. Since Oia is a particularly popular destination the bus back to Fira was quite crowded. Once back in Fira I got on another bus to take me back to my hotel for a good ...
