Another early breakfast after a good nights sleep, a few people look a bit worse for wear after yesterday. Breakfast at 7am and coach departs about 8.15. About a 2 hour trip along the old coast road rather than motorway, giving us some fantastic views of the Aegean coastline. Arriving in Izmir we ...

... families dropping their loved ones at the bus stops, presumably for the to return to work after the festival. After a short while we were back at sea level, we pulled of the road at a sign advertising a camping site, we drove on to the beach, there were a couple if families having a picnic, but no sign of anyone yo pay, we parked up on the beach and settled to watch the sunset, unfortunately the clouds prevented it from being a wonderful ...

The journey there passed through some lovely scenery, ...

The day starts with a traumatic experience, as we are getting ready to leave some of the men who were here with the rams reappear, they untied them and proceed to sacrifice them almost in front of us. I have witnessed sacrifices in Nepal at their festivals and I find them very upsetting. If you have never heard an animal squealing as their throat is cut you cannot know how horrible it is. I know that I shouldn't judge other people's cultures but it I find ...

With Mike & Michel we are driving up the coast from Bodrum to Istanbul with stops at Selcuk and Cannakale (pronounced Ch-naka-lay)! We need an extra overnight stop along the way so we decide on Ayvalik, a beach resort. We decide to "case the joint" before choosing a hotel...and that is when the fun starts! Not seeing any hotels in the town area we head up to a high spot and then for some insane reason pull off down a narrow cobbled lane that just ...
