We caught the bus for about 30 minutes down to a small village and then on to Akrotiri where there is a Minoan Bronze Age settlement. The settlement was destroyed in the Theran eruption about 167 BCE and buried in volcanic ash, which preserved the remains of frescoes and many objects and art works which are now in Greek museums. The site has been excavated since 1967.

We said good-bye to our paradise on Paros and boarded a Blue Star Ferry for a two hour boat ride to Santorini. Apparently we were not the only ones with this plan as it felt like a complete cattle call to and from the ferry. Our first glimpse of Santorini was amazing. ... breakfast (I still give my nod to Europe’s great pastry masters) and wines and desserts and mountains of full fat creamy Greek yogurt are adding to my already ample ass.
