Historical Traveler Reviews Nice Garden Hotel
We Loved It
My husband and I arrived in Nice on an overnight couchette from Paris. Most properties don't allow you to check in until 2:00 pm but Marianne was at the front desk at 10:00 am and gave us a fabulous room! She is so kind and fluent in several languages (as is her daughter).
Her rooms are very charming; each looks different but most have a view of the lovely garden in the courtyard. Everything is kept very clean and the bathrooms are updated and modern.
We didn't realize that breakfast was included with the room so we missed out on two mornings. The last morning we were there we went for breakfast and it was a glorious spread (bread, cheese, meat, cereal, yogurt, pastries, coffee, tea).
If the kind environment and lovely breakfast isn't enough, the short 5 minute walk to the mediterranean sea should be! It's only a 10-15 minute walk to the train station so you really don't need to take a taxi.
You can also catch a 30 minute train to Monaco and make it a day trip.
This trip was to celebrate our first anniversary--this will be a favorite stop and we plan to go back. Don't miss out on this delightful gem in Nice!
Oasis
Having entered through the perhaps not very exciting entrance we were welcomed very warmly. At this small hotel you will get all the attention and caring that you could ever want in a nice and personal way.
The hotel has very nice garden where you can have your breakfast or just relax. The rooms are not luxurious, byt very nice!
The beach is just a short walk away, and the old town is walking distance if you are not to lazy.
Our review October 13, 2006
My husband and I plus sister and brother in law stayed one night at the Nice Garden Hotel and wished we were staying longer. Its a beautiful hotel and rooms were very comfortable. We would definitely stay again if we return to Nice and highly recommend this family run hotel.
Absolutely superb hotel- highly recommended
Just got back from a weekend in Nice and this hotel is superb- great location and lovely rooms and the garden is a real added bonus to eat breakfast / chill out.
But the hospitality and friendliness of Marion and the rest of the staff- they were superb.
This hotel will defiinitely be returned to
More than made up for the negative parts of the weekend (wife had bag stolen, and rather bad weather towards the end)
All I can say is stay there!!!
Really nice suprise
After staying in Nice every year for the past five I have stayed in everything from no star to five star and the Nice Garden Hotel will definatley be the place I stay again and again. From the reception on arrival, the lovely breakfasts, the superb service from Marion and her team and the gorgeous garden so close to everything in Nice this was the perfect break. We were given a lovely room with doors onto the garden and were very well looked after. Travelling to Nice previously on my own I would definately say this would a perfect base for a lone traveller due to the location, service, garden and friendly nature.
Friendly, delightful base
We stayed at NGH at the end of July, arriving on the hottest day for 60 years! The hotel is conveniently located about halfway between the station and the coast, about 10 minutes walk. It forms the ground floor of an elegant period building, and has a delightful, secluded walled garden for guests to use. Our room was small, one side of the double bed was very close to the wall; the en suite (WC, basin, shower) was tiny - definite sideways shuffle required to sit on the WC! Room was clean, with comfort cooling - very welcome. Bed was very comfortable. Other rooms were larger. Make sure you know the size of the room you are allocated. Marion is a charming, friendly and helpful host, and her parents exude old fashioned courtesy. Breakfast in the garden is a relaxed occasion, and a great way to start the day.
If you want a superb value, convenient place to stay in central Nice, where you are not an anonymous guest, this is it.
Would we stay again? Definitely, but in a larger room.
Great family run hotel
This hotel is well situated for accessing the old town. Our room was fine but I did see others which were far nicer, ask for one with a frescoed ceiling. The best part of the hotel was the beautiful garden where you could have breakfast or sit and have a drink in the evening. The owner, Marion, is absolutely lovely, as are the rest of her family who do their best to ensure your stay is enjoyable. We really enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this hotel. It's not luxurious but it is quirky and friendly.
Lovely hotel, very friendly
This was a lovely hotel, very clean, with pretty, well maintained rooms. The garden was superb, an excellent setting for eating breakfast. The hotel was well situated for walking to the beach (200m) and a ten minute walk from the old town and flower market, and the Place de Massena. Our hostess Marion was very friendly and helpful, making us feel very at home! She advised us of places to visit during the day and was always available. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a very reasonably priced friendly hotel!
Simply Beautiful
Everything about the Nice Garden Hotel was perfect! Location, price, character, people and comfort. Villa Latour recommeded this hotel to me and I am so glad they did. Marion, the hostess was lovely, warm and so helpful...I arrived before my friends and she not only woke me from a nap (as I forgot my alarm clock) but recommended a wonderful Thai place where I was able to get a late night dinner. We were able to enjoy fresh croissants and OJ each morning in the beautiful garden which greeted us each morning with the lovely smell of Jasmine. I've attached pics of the garden and our room which Marion upgraded us to free of charge.
This is a family run establishment and if you're lucky you get to meet Marion's dad and her dog, Jack!! It's also in a great area...4 blocks from the beach, 2 blocks from the pedestrian area and a 5 minute walk to Old Town and the beautiful flower market.
In case you haven't noticed, I highly recommend the Nice Garden Hotel! :)
