... our semi separate trips. Drove the car from Verona to Milan this morning and Google indicated a less than two hour trip but the international airport Milan Malpensa is quite a way to the west of Milan central and it took 2 hrs 20 minutes. It was quite a tiring time driving on the freeway filled with trucks, all weaving in and out at the speed limit of 130 km per hour. Good feeling to get in the car with our own GPS and headed out of town to our accommodation At Agriturismo ...

... v busy so had to settle for an inside restaurant that was partly air conditioned. The recommended local wine was DOC but analysing it in Aussi terms it was thin, slightly acidic and lacking distinctive fruit flavour that we would get from over cropped vines picked too early and a hot fermentation. We packed completely last night and had plenty of time going by ferry to the station and the train left in ...

... in these caves and attached some of them by mining connections for passages as well as aquaducts. They had been there nearly 2000 years before they were discovered. There is still a lot of unknowns about how they lived, but it is a well done self guided tour. Orvieto was also a popular bolthole for Popes during times of unrest in Rome, and this vast deep well was available for use in the event of a siege.

After the caves, we are off to see Porta Maggiore, ...
