La Condamine, Monaco
We continued along the coast road looking for a spot for the night. Traffic was horresdous and very slow going. I wanted to turn around and head back into France. Kim on the other hand was all smiles as she loves Italy. Finally found one in the cute little fishing village of Riva Ligure ...
Riva Liguria, Liguria, Italy darrenhough74After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
Menton, Provence, France darrenhough74Up early as it was a spectacular sunrise - full of pinks and organges. We wanted to hit McWifi before we entered Italy but we did not find one until later in the day in Menton. Before that we drove the coast road through Nice and Monte Carlo, both concrete ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco darrenhough74... wine bottle and then we thought they were off on the trail, but no they got in the car and drove on!
At the end of the gorge we joined the road towards Cannes, which was route Napoleon, orginially created by him as a pass through the mountains...very windy. Our destination for the evening was Grasse where we found a good park overlooking the city lights and our first view of the Med.
Grasse, Provence, France darrenhough74Cannes is not as glamrous as we thought it would be, it still has all the fancy smancy stores along the beach, but there were definitely no red carpets rolled out when we were there. We did a day trip to St-Tropez, its was the end of a hge sailing competitiona and tons of ...
Cannes, Provence, France sofenjon... the Grimaldi family. And where Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly joined in marriage in St. Nicholas Cathedral. In the square of Monaco-Ville, the Royal Palace could be found. From here, you could see all the districts of Monaco including Fontevielle, La Condamine and Monte-Carlo. Not to mention the breathtaking view of Port Hercules, more commonly known as the Port of Monte-Carlo! Here you could see the ...
vallecrosia, Italy cavallette... mountains. Monday was our last day on the Côte d'Azur. We took another tour, this time to Monaco. This place is well known of course, but the sheer weight of money in the place is quite staggering. We spent a few hours taking in the region near the Royal Palace, including the changing of the guards (today comprised of about 20 of the 80-strong Monaco army). Then spent quite some time at the Jacques Cousteau aquarium nearby, which was housed in a ...
Nice, France davenicWell, everywhere we go at the moment there seems to be roadworks happening. Footpaths, streets, you name it. oh, including the buildings and their façades. It would probably be a lot more beautiful in a year! Today we did a day trip into Monaco, monte carlo. A very beautiful town also, with pebbly beach. It's ...
Nice, France littleruntAfter a long day on the bus we finally arrived in our destination for the next couple of nights....Nice in France - country number 2. Dinner tonight should have been at a local restaurant, but after a little confusion we ended up having dinner at a local bar where it was customary for drink to be delivered via the waiter walking on your table....interesting yes.....fun definately.
