We clambered aboard cyclos again to get to the bus station for our journey to Can Tho. There were 5 passengers in a 15 seat a/c minibus when we started - we thought we were in for a relaxing ride in relative luxury. As we left town the van stopped occasionally to pick up more passengers and their baggage until we were full. However, that didn't stop the driver from picking up more people and their stuff, until at one point we were 21 passengers, the extras sitting on tiny stools and each othe...

Can Tho, Vietnam mekongtour... we weren’t too proud to take off our shoes and wade through it!

One thing that the Vietnamese are great at is just sitting and watching the world go by (you can’t walk down the road without seeing someone asleep or just sat doing nothing). It was in Can Tho that we really experienced this for ourselves. We’d go to our local café, get a coffee (for about 15p each) and just sit and watch the world go by. Heaven…
Can Tho, Vietnam annandrewabroad... exotic fruit trees and acres of rice paddies. Post lunch it was time to head back out on the boat to one of the other islands. Here we had honey tea with added lemon and flower pollen for flavour and ate some honey based snacks. To compliment this we also tried banana wine which as Cesca found out is not as sweet as it sounds! Afterwards we took a traditional smaller boat paddled by some local villagers up a small canal, they used short handled paddles and wore traditional ...

We discovered snakes big and small, turtles, mice, rats and Egret type birds all which were waiting to be sold as somebody’s dinner!!! We went past brillant green ...

We were offered both but kindly declined after seeing how the river water had splashed into boats and the cups looked wet.

You could tell what the boat was selling because they tied whatever it was to a long wooden stick and propped it up so people could see. Many people live on their boats. As we floated past one, a small boy, about 4 years old, pulled down his pants and was ...
Can Tho, Vietnam meclayt... explanation about my fortune being mixed, there will be trouble between Paul and I (gasp) but only in the short run, in the long run we will find prosperity by moving to another country (excellent).

The third task was to pray to the mother of mothers for healthy children, most Vietnamese people pray here for either a boy or a girl - but I'm not really fussed so I prayed for both, on my knees touching my forehead to the ground. Sa Ðéc, Ã'á»"ng Tháp, Vietnam emmaandpaul... and the trip really nice - taking us through 2 floating markets, orchards, rice paper making factory... very relaxing. we then tried to organise our way to HCMC. Now for this, given our good experience we went with the hotel people. This was a mistake. The guy sold us the ticket saying the bus went right into the backpackers district 1 in HCMC. He actually repeated this again and again. An outright lie as none of the buses do this. The ...
Can Tho, Vietnam leannemedland... on the bed you could probably see in! Luckily our new neighbours weren't snorers! That night also turned into a bit of a chilly one and we had a blanket that if your feet were covered really only came to the bottom of your chest! I chose to have cold feet! The bungalows were actually raised up over a small pond, I presume to help with cooling but this caused a problem with mozzies! We had a net though so all was well and good. The house we stayed at was called Ba Tung. The ...
