... In and out little paths here and there, it was very nice, more pleasant than the graffiti stricken streets. We came out a few blocks mid-town so had to cut across to get to our destination, Luisenplatz. We bought tickets for a city tour at the Infocentre and were told the tour started in 10 minutes. We hurried across the plaza and boarded the bus.
We were in the top of a double-decker bus and it was a very good tour ...
... the building and odd looking gargoyles. A lot of them need cleaning and are black from the soot generated by coal burning - they need a bloody good sandblast. I saw evidence of German restoration work. I don't think Australia or Britan would allow such work to be carried out on Heritage listed properties of this ilk. Where some of the brick work has been 'repaired' they have used that 'fake brick' type stuff - it stands out like ...
Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany masonsineurope... the university cares enough to try to make a mends for their actions. And come rain or shine, 365 days of the year you can buy books in front of that University! The last thing we saw on our tour was big news/weather tour that was put up by one of Hitler's designers. It is the third tallest building in europe. And sits among the oldest buildings in Berlin, and the man that designed and decided to place it their really did not like church, religion or ...
Berlin, Germany abauerly... NOWHERE. We got off one us, determined to wait until one came in the opposite direction to take us back. We spent over 30 minutes waiting for one to come back, and it finally it did. IT.WAS.THE.SAME.BUS.DRIVER. This was out thrid time getting on a bus with him. We managed to get lost taking the subway home as well, as though this had not been enough. But I was with my best friends, so I don't mind that time that I...got lost in Potsdam.
Potsdam, Germany berlinbaby...
Berlin, Germany bonobobanana... day. We were there for about 4.5 hours and when we came out it was raining (talk about crazy weather), so we decided not to go to dinner and movie with the tour group and headed back to the hotel, in the outskirts of Berlin. We walked around the suburb for about an hr looking for a restaurant, and ended up going to the one we had gone to on Friday night. Anyhows, thats about all for Berlin. A rather crazy, and slightly disappointing city.
Berlin, Germany canham.honeymoo... their-pockets Germans. Halfway through the performance a friend I had met in Ljubljana walked past so now I had someone to share obnoxious comments with as well as someone who was going to push the pace of the day/night from casual sipping to a higher level of earnestness. After about an hour he had to leave to catch a train and I was back to my own devices. And then shortly after he left, it happened. One of those rare moments that validates a random obnoxious observation, that's so ...
Berlin, Germany danblank... of city excursions. But then again, I should understand from my more than 12 months to date on the road, make every second count because you can't be everywhere for as long as you want. It was my first time on an ICE train (InterCityExpress) and it was very, very impressive. It was brand new and just...beautiful, the doors were all automatic, even the locks in the toilets were automatic. There were interactive screens that ...
Berlin, Germany julietranDay 4 - Thursday - 6/4/06 Ahh, awoke to a warm 6deg Celcius this morning - still the first ones moving at 6am (I guess the daylight saving time is ignored by most). We got going by around 7.30am towards Celle. Unfortunately, we were without maps again and had to travel through Hannover...during peak hour. Amazingly, our plan of taking random turns throughout the city paid off, just as we'd almost lost hope, a beautiful yellow sign with the word: Celle ...
Potsdam, Germany uber.mutzelburg... but its supposed to express the disorientation and shock of the Holocaust...interesting story is the artist that designed it hired a chemical company to apply an anti-graffiti coating to the whole thing, problem is that it was the same company that produced the gas for Hitlers concentration camps that killed millions of Jews!), Hitlers bunker (the bunker where Hitler hid out the final days of the war and killed himself ...
