    ... d call scrub and trees. The first bush to grow on the lava flows is broom. The locals admire the yellow flower. At home of course, broom is a weed. In some parts the countryside reminded us of NZ sheep country in summer. A comment from the tour guide on the bus reminded us of some lines from Fawlty Towers when she said in winter in Sicily you can go skiing on Mt Etna and swimming in the ocean on the same day. As Basil said to the Californians, "it sounds very tiring." ...

    ... buses and went further uphill to a tiny village called Castelmola which is perched right on top of a 500m rocky peak overlooking Taormina and Giardini Naxos. The views of the towns mentioned and the Mediterranean were striking from such an elevation. The blue waters were so clear we could easily see the ocean floor around Isola Bella even from so high up on the mountain. Castelmola only has one main street ...

    ... although good, was not the same as I can make at home. Jacques and Marina loved it and that what was important to me. For a casserole that should have served 8-10 people, we had gone thru over half of it in one sitting. Quick coffee after dinner, and a final slurp of wine, before grabbing my sleep sac, duvet and pillow, then flopping down on the topside bed. The skies were clear and the stars plentiful. I saw 4 shooting stars right away, and blew them to Washington ...

    ... in their room and it hurt so, she and Nikki went to the Medical Center to have it looked at. Luckily it was not broken, just tender. We hope to not need to go back to the Health Center for any reason on this trip!

    After dinner we walked, shopped and Nikki and the girls went to see Twice Charmed while I watched Hercules on the Funnel Vision.

    Tonight we advance our clocks up by one hour ...
