    ... Symphony Orchestra and some Ambulance outfit. It looks like they use some of the grounds for rock concerts etc. The planned Nazi Centre would have covered 11sqkm and it would have been magnificent; in an ugly sort of way. It was then back to the Old Town where we walked up to the top where the Castle is. Another engineering marvel but many centuries before the Nazis. The Old Town is just a great place to wander around as there's always markets, buskers, beggars ...

    71km, (total 461km) 12-22deg, mostly cloudy with patches of sun, no rain. We could have easily spent more time in Bamberg, a fascinating city with a rich history. However we've pre-booked motels for the first part of the tour due to school holidays so we must keep moving. After a rather late (8am) brekkie (which was very nice) we rode away at 9am.     ... like salami. About this time most of us were hanging out for a nap so it was back to our rooms to catch some z's. Dinner was at the Smoked-Black-Beer-Pub, traditional German food, sauerkraut, bratwaust, boiled pork-belly, and roast pork shoulder etc, all very yummo!! No one had any more smoked black beer; one per day is plenty. A short wander, and icecream dessert for some capped off a very satisfying and enjoyable day. Gute ...

    ... of the boat and had an amazing view. As the boat was passing by a line of fishermen's houses, there was an older man who was picking flowers.     ... into the bottom of the empty lock, the reservoirs are in turn (starting with the lowest one) emptied in to the lock to help fill it, and only the last part of the lock filling comes from the canal above.

    Amazingly, all this takes place with no pumping needed to move water uphill.
