Munich at last!

At last after an eternity of endless night, yes we followed darkness across the world and the planes kept bedding us down to sleep, except of course we couldn't ....so flying's a *****! Anyway here we are in Munich, tomorrow evening we join our tour and tomorrow after a bit of a rest (we're already stuffed) we're going to check out Munich central! We had a great view as we flew towards Munich, picture book countryside, snow on the Alps, coastline of Turkey and everything new and amazing..even...

Munich conquered!

Today we discovered that despite a language difference we could find our way around on the train system, right into the city centre where we checked out the pension we will be staying at after this tour. We hopped on the 'Hop on Hop Off' tour and learned heaps about Munich and its history but photos on the go are not good! The transport system is great here, right on time, comfortable and easy to figure out ...it must be because we could do it! My must unusual experience was the 2.20 comfort ...

Munich Day 5

Ki ora all. We had a sleep in today and I woke up at 8.15am. Jackie at 8.50 which was good as she has been hoping for a good sleep in. We went and had our breakfast straight away and once again it was cooked; varied and nice. The coffee is especially good although i think this is mainly because it is very hot. Then it was back upstairs for a shower and packing as we had to leave the hotel unfortunately. It has been really great and its location is terrific. Thoroughly recommend it. We left th...

... so nasty from drinking and the water almost felt like it was cleansing us. After an hour or so of wading around, we went back up to the room and ALL passed out. We woke up around 9ish, still a little inebriated and knew that it was time to get dinner. We were all feeling fine up until this point because we were all intoxicated through pretty much every event of the day. We decided to go downtown in Munich in order to see some other things besides ...

Neuschwanstein, in the rain.

... the gate and decided where to eat afterwards. This castle was the home of King Maximilian II, the father of later King Ludwig II who built Neuschwanstein on a hill above it, where he could easily survey the work on his new castle.

The interior was beautiful, with fine woodwork and walls covered in murals of the time. We couldn't take pictures inside either castle, so we both bought the same guide book that Jen Davies had loaned me ...

Disney castles, science and weasles, oh my...

... tried to figure out who we were. A short time later we saw little orange dots in the field before us. Coming closer we saw it was a group of hunters. A little closer and we saw it was about 15 hunters surrounding a brush pile, carrying weapons. There were dogs, and men poking around in the brush. We were hoping they weren't shooting through the brush, as they were in a circle.... We decided to turn around. After stopping to take some photos (because we were laughing ...

Not Switzerland... but still fun

... It was unreal. The nearest Co-op (grocery store) is a 45 minute uphill walk or a 5 minute cable car ride. Or...... you can buy some products from the locals. We bought some butter from the bed and breakfast next door and it litterally has the husband and wifes name on a sticker with their address. In fact, if you went and asked they could probably point out the cow it came from. It is unreal. I already told you about the greatest day of my life with the hike in the rain. Well ...

Munich

... do with that) and I think it is something that everyone has to do at some point in their lives. I could see myself coming back there again just for the festival, which says a lot because there hasnt been a place or event in Europe that I could see traveling all the way to Europe for just one thing. After five days in Munich, I couldnt handle much more but what I did experience changed my life for the better. Now off to Berlin to recover my strenght and head down the back stretch of my trip.

Munich, Germany

Our long flight from Atlanta to Munich came to a close in the bitter cold of an early morning. It is funny what a flight like that does to your body. Once more, I had convinced myself that sleep IS possible within the confines of at 18" x 24" economy seat, and once more I found myself disappointed, and left tired. Dylan seemed to be the only ...

Party on the old fashioned way

Yeap, here we are, "when in Rome..." For Germany this means HOFBRAHAUS!! Zip your mouth to anything but beer (except perhaps some pretzels if your teeth can take it, or if your teeth are out to get the pretzel girl...!)and don't hesitate to sing along! Hope you do better than me....
