... and talking for about five minutes when all of a sudden I felt something touch my upper back, and a split-second later Jen's eyes widened in horror and she leapt up from her seat next to me, screaming, "Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!" pointing at me but failing to say what it was. It's rather awful when this reaction is provoked about something obviously on your person. I hurriedly said to her dad, "Whatever it is, just get it off!" He took a menu and whacked the offending thing. From ...

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam chopper_and_kat... Chi Minh where the Mekong river empties into the sea. It contains a variety of small towns and cities and many tourists take a one, two or three day tour of the region, departing from HCM. Immediately after our arrival in the Mekong I met two girls from Chicago. They had recently graduated from law school and taken the bar exam and had decided to celebrate with a two week vacation to Thailand and Vietnam. They served as yet another example of American culture and our emphasis on work ...

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam heledd... driving we were not too surprised.

We also visited the Cu Chi tunnels just outside Saigon - a network of over 250km of tunnels in the very small district of Cu Chi, that the Viet Con resistance guerrillas used during the war to spring surprise attacks on the US forces, as well as hiding from them. They were amazing - so basic, but so clever. They were full of awful bamboo traps, which caused the Americans to fall into pits with razor sharp bamboo sticks in. The tunnels ...

A gay guy from Cambodia also chatted me up for a bit!

[Rich: A similar event happened to me. Whilst casually urinating in the men's toilets, a Vietnamese guy dressed in all white, styling a John Travolta 'Saturday Night Fever' look, walked over to me and started looking at my Dong! We headed to a French restaurant, Bibi Ba, recommended by a French friend (you're starting to get the picture) - and splurged out on 3 courses, including fillet steaks and cocktails. In the mood to splurge, we headed next round the corner to the Sheraton, and straight to the 23rd floor for some chilled out cocktails with some very impressive views of the city.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxx
