Travel Day

So today started of around 6 15 with the alarm going off so we could get up eat and head out to Marble Mountain before we had to leave. The mt was only about a 10 min. walk so Nate, Jeff and I decided to walk instead of get a taxi. On the way there, ppl on scooters decided to hassle us and see if we were going to the mt and then they wanted us to shop in their families store on our way back. They were actually very nice, but persistent. We went up the mountain and had to climb a ton of stair...

Clinic Day 1 around Dalat

Hello everyone! So it's 5 45 in the morning and I am making sure that I get my blog done for yesterday. Yesterday the bus was leaving at 6 30 to to go the hospital. Kind of a rushed morning because they only start serving breakfast at 6 or 6 10 and we had to be out by 6 30. I ended up sitting with one of the translators on the way to the hospital. We chatted it up about the city and what not. His name is Wan and he is finishing up school for tourism. He wants to move to Ho Chi Mihn City and b...

Last Clinic day and free day in Dalat

Hi again. Been two days since i've updated but had a busy 2 days. Started off with our last day of clinic which was a saturday. We had 300 people scheduled for that day but it seemed fairly slow. We had planned on only adjusting a half day and that is what we did. Everyone was ready to be done with clinic and it was good that clinic was slow because if it was not slow, i think some people would have been at each others throats. Mainly because everyone just wanted to be done. I only adjusted 7...

Pierre wanted one badly even though i've been working my fingers off peeling him 2 pomelos so far on this trip, using a tiny little Swiss Army knife...the things i do for that man, sigh. The farmer wanted 100,000 dongs for it and couldn't care less if he sold it since most people will pay big money for these beasts come the New Year celebration. A regular pomelo goes for ...

... remember the 8 hour day for 2.50 aiden across the border!!). This whole villages help each other out and animals and children roam free as birds under the communal suppervision. You got a real sense of happiness and family in the place and even tho electricty and TV have come in the last 10-15 years they still enjoy and love the simple things in life and put communal joy over individual or material wealth. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!! Another thing ...

We were chagrined to discover that the promised five hour bus to Da Lat ended up taking eight hours. We arrived at the small mountainous city at 3:30 p.m. and quickly found an extremely cheap hostel ($5/night for a room with t.v. and free Internet). Not wanting to waste the day, we walked to the Da Lat Crazy House, which is a hotel designed by a Vietnamese architect that studied in Russia. The guest house is comprised ...

We ended up going out for a late night snack our

Never did find out what went down. Just filed it away with yet another odd Vietnam Airlines incident. Along with the obnoxious family of fourteen yelling at each other from across ten rows as to where everyone was going to sit. They continue to play leap frog as the flight ...

First week in Vietnam - Saigon to Dalat

... I can't really describe it other than some of it was a bit Gaudi-looking... and then there were 2 massive giraffes, a bear with scary eyes, a kangaroo... glittered mirrors... it really is the craziest house I've ever seen!
My driver, Truong, was great... and could answer all my random questions... and when I ran out of tissues (I've got a bit of a cold) he gave me his spare hankie bless him... reminded me of my dad who always seems to have hankies on him ...
