Historical Traveler Reviews of New World Renaissance Hotel Hong Kong

A little disappointed

from KenRoswell
Expected more from this well-located hotel on the harbor-front in Kowloon. Our room basically had a 7 foot ceiling with a little tray. It was very close, but clean, and someone had made an attempt at decor. Considering that we had also stayed at the Marco Polo Hong Kong recently, and the Bishop Lei Intn'l. House on Hong Kong Island, this hotel didn't come up to expectations.

The lobby was virtually in a shopping center store, and help was hard to attract on arrival in a taxi. If the weather is inclement, however, it connects with one of the world's great shopping and dining centers.

Great stay

We only had 1 night in hong kong (stopover) so we looked for a hotel that was wel located so that the little time we had was wel spend.

The location is perfect, Your very close to al the action hong kong has to offer. Its also very close (3 min walk)to the dock of the bay were you can see the skyline of hong kong island. In the evening (approx 08:00 pm) the skyline gives a lightshow this is great!!!

The rooms of the hotel are a bit smal but clean and cosy.

Ive stayed in hong kong island also a few years ago and prefere that location myself (If you have lots of time)but if I would end up in kowloon again I would certenly stay in this hotel again

New World great location

from sbdotraveler
The New World Renaissance Hotel has a great location. It is within walking (very little) distance from the star ferry, the MTR, and Tsim Sha Tsui shopping area. There is a lot of contruction on the street in front of the hotel and on the club level floors (remodeling) when my wife and I went Nov. 24-27, 2004. We went for vacation and sight seeing, the construction was during from 9-5, we were never in the room during those hours, therfore it did not bother us at all. We were told about the construction at time of check-in. The front desk personel are extremely polite and professional. The room we were given was not remodeled but it still was elegant. It was a little small for American standards but it was fine. We had a single queen bed which was extremely hard, this is our only complaint about the room. The hotel being connected to a shopping mall and a grocery store is very convinient. It is also connected to the avenue of the stars which is nothing to right home about but the view of Hong Kong Island is great. Hong kong is great for shopping, do not miss going to Stanley and the ladies market in Mongkok. Stanley is a HK$2.20 ferry ride and a HK12.80 bus ride #260 from the ferry terminal at Central. The bus ride is fun, specially on the front seats of the second deck. This will give you a fun ride which may remind you of riding a roller coaster. Both Stanley market and the ladies market are great shopping areas to practice your barteringu prowess. Always barter, it is expected. The tram ride to Victoria Peak is also not to be missed, as the views from the peak itself. To conclude, Hong Kong is a great place for a vacation for sight seeing and shopping. I highly recommend the New World Renaissance.

Great Hotel

Great hotel. Stayed 11/21/2004 - 11/27/2004. Very similar to top of the line USA business class hotel. Service was excellant. Get rate with breakfast included, as buffet includes anything you would want. View of harbor from back of hotel is outstanding.

A calm oasis

from DanAirUK
We stayed at the New World for 7 nights at the end of October and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is well placed for all transport, Bus A21 to/from the airport stop just outside and the MTR is nearby. It is right on the harbour, 5 minute walk to Nathan road, museums and the star ferry etc.

I would recommend the club floor, which costs a little more, but provides a dedicated reception and a lounge which provides free breakfast as well as drinks and snacks through the day/evening.

I understand they will be refurbishing some of the rooms in November, which is probably due, but our room was spacious. The bathroom was finished in marble with both a bath and shower.

Eating is quite expensive in-house, but there are several restaurants in the attached shopping centre, which are good value.

Loved the New World

from Anony073
This hotel is great! While we found some good reviews online, our tour books gave it an "OK" basically. So we were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The lobby is very pretty and CLEAN and everyone is very helpful. The train is easy to get to via an underground walkway. The avenue of the stars is right outside the hotel, and is a great place to walk and take in the HK city view.

We upgraded our room prior to arrival to get a king sized bed. Although our mattress was a bit firm for us, the room was great and also quite large! We had a full bath, a really large walk in closet with lots of storage space, and it was very nice. The A/C and lights are controlled with panels on each side of the bed, and that was great too, in case you got cold you didn't have to get up. We had room #801, if anyone would like to request it on a future visit, you'll be guaranteed a larger than usual HK room.

Good Hotel, Great location

from Texas_Phil
Stayed here for the second time last week for 3 nights. I find this hotel to be very efficient and a good value. It is conveniently located in Kowloon and is not too far from train stations and shopping. I got a room with two twin beds and this configuration seems to give you a little more room as opposed to a queen size bed. Be aware that both times I have stayed here, my room did not have a bathtub, only a shower. The room is very comfortable. The service is decent in the hotel. If you are staying here for any length of time, what I find most convenient is that the hotel is connected to a shopping mall that has a huge grocery store in the mall. This is great for picking up simple meals or snacks or beer.

Great Location

Stayed here for 2 nights on a stopover on the long journey from Australia to Canada in August. We got a deal on the Marriott website which also included free buffet breakfasts which when we converted it would have cost us $60CAD extra. The room was large, as was the bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable and enabled great nights sleep. One downside was the view as we overlooked the road at the back and construction was going on but no outside noise could be heard from our room. Location is excellent as it is a short walk along the harbourside to the Star Ferry and also to the main streets/markets in Kowloon. Staff extremely polite and helpful. Pool small but adequate for cooling off. One thing i didnt like was that we couldnt take our luggage from the lobby to the ground level taxi / bus pickup area as there was only an escalator, so needed staff to do it.

A great location, hotel good, however, in need of a little up-dating

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here last September 03 for a week. Arrived on United 747-400 from San Francisco and after going thru immigration and getting our bags, we were in our room an hour and half later.

The hotel is in a great location, hands down! The staff were excellent!. One morning, I could not get down for breakfast and the staff asked my wife, if I was okay and if they could send some food to the room. She thanked them and said that I was just taking my time and would see all later. That was really nice that they thought of me. This hotel, could not do enough for you. Excellent!

Along with all this, the room we had was quite large with a separate bedroom. The bath was wonderful with marble counters and double sinks with a great large shower. The carpet in the room, however, needed replacement. It had a few stains and the couch in the main part of the room was a joke.

Also, the TV needs up-dating, as it was quite small.

We found the lobby area to be a bit on the boring side, although, it led right into the large shopping mall, which was great. We enjoyed the market, where we bought plenty of bottled water, cokes and other goodies. The Marriott provides plenty of water in your room for the night. The hotel was very safe and we noticed some airline crews from UPS and FEDEX staying there.

This property is recommended, just a little sprucing up, like paint, carpeting, perhaps better tv and a modern couch will make the room more enjoyable. Oh, by the way, the remote control lighting and air conditioning was great with radio from your bed. Nice listening to Hong Kong music in the morning, when getting ready to hit the town.

If you are a Marriott rewards, be sure to get your points for your stay.

Great Location, Great Hotel, Great Value, It was ALL Great

This hotel was under renovation on the extrerior when I visited. It was an excellent Location, Everything very upscale indoors, I loved everything about it. You can access the entire city from this hotel. The Subway is a outfront, The Star Ferry is 2 blocks away, The Airport Shuttle Goes to this hotel from Chep Lap Kok. I had a very good rate as well, I want to say $700 HKD/ Night, if i remember correctly. The only thing that is pricey is eating at the onsite food areas, oh by the way the hotel is attached to one of the largest shopping centers in Hong Kong. Overall a great experience, I would absolutely return.
