Bangkok

Well, Bangkok is hectic, and lots and lots of shopping...I have become a shopaholic since coming to Thailand, bad bad thing, I actually bought a suitcase in order to put all my purchases in it...thats sad huh? Anyways, Bangkok is awesome, met my new tour group and Chiang Mai is next on the list, trekking for 3 days...aka 3 days without a shower!

Back from the Trek

So, we are all back from our hiking in the middle of nowhere..got to ride an elephant, and I was the only one brave enough to go on and ride on the head of the elephant, which was fantastic. Then the next day we took a bamboo raft down the river for about 3-4 hours, which was fun as well, and none of us wanted to walk the 5 hours that we were supposed to hike that day, so it was a good respite. Anyways, now on to some pictures for you all! I know youre excited!

Tour starts

headed to the Chadachuck market to meet up with the others for a midmorning bevy, then a quick look around, got lots of beads ... I've moved on from DVD's at least. headed to the tailors for a fitting. then to Banyon Tree Motel to go to Vertigo bar - very cool, is on the roof of the building, quite pricey but worth it for the view. Met out tour at 7pm and caught taxis to the train station to go to Lao border on overnight train. Tour sounds great, pretty much just getting local public transpor...

Vietnam - country vs. embassy

dear vietnam, i swear your country better be much better than your embassy. i am pleased you dont seem to be in any hurry, what a great approach. But goan not take 2500 thai bahts off me, tell me to come back before 1530 today, then when i turn up go on a half hour lunch break. and then come back and tell me it wont be ready for another 2 hours and look at me blankly while i want to strangle you. thaaaaaanks your old pal allan. in all seriousness i have had about 3 hours sleep and im sitting ...

I've made it to Thailand!!!

Hello! Well I've arrived in Thailand! We landed at Bangkok airport at about 5am local time and by 7.30am I was catching up on much needed sleep in my hotel room!! The flight was great - Thai Airways are soooooooo good! The food was delicious, they give you pillows and blankets, the hostesses wear really cool outfits and the seats are all colourful so the plane even looks pretty!!! It wasn't full so i got two seats to myself which was bliss!! Oh and, to add to the list of good things, they eve...

Thailand Thailand Thailand!!!

Can't believe another week has flown by!! Thailand rocks, having such a great time! Our group met last Saturday night, there are 12 of us, (although we're losing 3 and gaining 2 others today!) one couple from England, two from Australia, five people from England and one from Germany. We've all got on really well and had a good laugh over the past week which has been great! On our first day we saw a few sights in Bangkok, got a boat to Wat Pho - the massive reclining Buddha, (46 meters long an...

I love air conditioning....

Arrived in Bangokok and got completely slapped in the face with the humidity - it is unbelievable. Turns out the air con in my room at The New World Lodge Hotel is, naturally, broken so Lucy and I sweltered last night and woke up a sticky mess...cold shower no 36 in 24hrs was well-justified. It is a great city if you can look past the sewage, smog and general filth, which thankfully I can. Just. The locals are great - always trying to help, although sometimes it is actually just for 10 Thai B...

Hello Bangkok

Well let the games begin. I've decided to try another travelogue, as it's a good way for me to remember what happened during my days over here. Photos are all well and dandy, however, there's more to remember about a trip than a photo can offer. That's why I'm writing this. If there's grammatical and spelling errors forgive me, as I can't afford to spend a lot of time in fixing those up. I arrived in Bangkok at about 7:30pm today and my first impression of the city was... "holy hannah, that's...

All too familiar now

To finish up this trip, I had to fly out of Hanoi and catch a connecting flight out of Bangkok. The catch, however, is that I have 3 nights in Bangkok. Essentially I am now playing the waiting game. Since I did a lot of side day trips the first time I came to Bangkok, I have decided to chill out for the next few days. No need to spend heaps of money when I feel like I've seen quite a bit this trip. Nevertheless, if there's money to be spent, it'll be on shopping. I landed in Bangkok around 12...

Backpacker central

from nightpanda
This hotel is the starting point for at least two large backpacking outfits so it's constantly busy with young hippie types flowing in and out and orientations in the lobby etc. If this doesn't bother you it's actually a pretty decent deal for the money. Slightly away from khao san road which is nice because that street gets really noisy at night. great food stands/laundry service practically right outside the door. Don't really recommend staying in this area for more than a day or so though because it's out of the way of public transportation and is pretty much all foreigners.

El peor hotel de mi viaje a Tailandia

from Ainoa

All in all okay

from Dew_Eastern
If you are looking for a one night stay, this is not a bad choice. It is located just a five minute walk from the Khao San road. The rooms are very simple, and the surrounding area of the hotel is not too nice. But all in all, for 27$ (in the high season), it was okay.

Very Simple Hotel

from smallcatoh
The hotel personell were very freindly and helpful. The rooms were dirty and the bathrooms were covered in mold. The hotel is on a sewage ditch and you have to keep the bathroom door closed or the smell would enter the room. The hotel is located is close to Koh San Road so shopping is easy, however, I would recommend that you don't waste your money here and instead find a nice hotel on Koh San or in the general area.

Good location, Okay place to stay.

from Beerboy
Great location close to the backpacker's area of Khao San Road. Good streetside restaurants just around the corner nearby, don't pay their hotel prices for average food. The rooms are spacious, but tired looking, and in need of renovation but clean. The hotel faces a canal which isn't the cleanest looking thing in the world and not the best smelling but that's what Bangkok is about! There are streetside markets within 1 block of the hotel. I think this is good value for the money and given the location, it's an good place to stay if you're a backpacker or on a budget.

Value for money

a great place to stay if you need a comfortable roof over your head.

very near to Banglumphu and Khao san shopping area.

Food are abundance around the hotel.

And it is near to the Grand Palace too, just make sure you wear decent clothes if you plan a trip there i.e long pants and proper t-shirt.

Give it a miss!

First impression was okay! We thought it looked good for the price! But it was not. The food in the restaurant made both me and my boyfriend sick (We have been travelling for 2 months and this was the only time it happened). Then our toilet didn't flush! (A bad combination). Then, rather than fixing our problem they told us to use the toilet in the "gym". Overall, room was not very clean either. Give it a miss, please!!! I hope I help someone by convincing them not to stay there!!!!!!

An all-around great find

from Dalaguete
The NWL is a terrific value for all of the ameniities provided. Located in the older Banglamphu district, it's a stone's throw from Khao San Road (hippie backpacker paradise) and the Chao Phraya river.

Super friendly staff, clean rooms and a secure feeling make the NWL a solid recommendation for travellers on a budget, but not wanting to sacrifice amenities...

There is also a good restaurant and western breakfast in their on-site restaurant!
