Baking in Bangkok
Laying claim to the hottest City in the World, Bangkok did not disappoint. Combined with extremely high humidity we literally bakes these few days but despite the energy sapping heat we also really enjoyed the visit.

So This is What 24 Looks Like...
This morning we had to get up and ready for our airport shuttle to pick us up at 1030am! I decided to have some breakfast at our favourite little cafe and call my parents to chat! It's my birthday today so I've been receiving lots of lovely messages from everyone! So thank you to everyone, I've read them all! It doesn't really feel like a birthday …
Bangkok
Where do we begin?! It wasn't a great journey into Thailand from Cambodia. We were sold this as a VIP bus, it goes direct to Bangkok, it won't be full so there will be plenty of room and you'll get taken through the border control. We were collected from our hostel at 7.30am in a mini van for our 8 hour journey to Bangkok, Thailand. It started well …
Bangkok
WE ARRIVED!! Just about! Trust two nervous flyers to pick the worst day of the summer for crazy storms! Our BA flight to London was delayed due to crazy weather - we were all on the edge coz Nat was meeting us in London to fly - visions of her ending up in Bangkok on her own - Luckily our flight finally got cleared for take off - it was like taking …
Palaces and Ping Pongs
Today was our last day in Bangkok so we headed to the Grand Palace. We arrived and realised that we needed to be wearing long trousers and sleeved tops. (we both had shorts and I had a vest on). Located all around the palace were little stalls selling clothing as alot of tourists turn up to the palace and do the exact same thing as us. We decided …

Historical Traveler Reviews New World City Hotel Bangkok
Backpacker central
This hotel is the starting point for at least two large backpacking outfits so it's constantly busy with young hippie types flowing in and out and orientations in the lobby etc. If this doesn't bother you it's actually a pretty decent deal for the money. Slightly away from khao san road which is nice because that street gets really noisy at night. great food stands/laundry service practically right outside the door. Don't really recommend staying in this area for more than a day or so though because it's out of the way of public transportation and is pretty much all foreigners.
All in all okay
If you are looking for a one night stay, this is not a bad choice. It is located just a five minute walk from the Khao San road. The rooms are very simple, and the surrounding area of the hotel is not too nice. But all in all, for 27$ (in the high season), it was okay.
Very Simple Hotel
The hotel personell were very freindly and helpful. The rooms were dirty and the bathrooms were covered in mold. The hotel is on a sewage ditch and you have to keep the bathroom door closed or the smell would enter the room. The hotel is located is close to Koh San Road so shopping is easy, however, I would recommend that you don't waste your money here and instead find a nice hotel on Koh San or in the general area.
Good location, Okay place to stay.
Great location close to the backpacker's area of Khao San Road. Good streetside restaurants just around the corner nearby, don't pay their hotel prices for average food. The rooms are spacious, but tired looking, and in need of renovation but clean. The hotel faces a canal which isn't the cleanest looking thing in the world and not the best smelling but that's what Bangkok is about! There are streetside markets within 1 block of the hotel. I think this is good value for the money and given the location, it's an good place to stay if you're a backpacker or on a budget.
Value for money
a great place to stay if you need a comfortable roof over your head.
very near to Banglumphu and Khao san shopping area.
Food are abundance around the hotel.
And it is near to the Grand Palace too, just make sure you wear decent clothes if you plan a trip there i.e long pants and proper t-shirt.
Give it a miss!
First impression was okay! We thought it looked good for the price! But it was not. The food in the restaurant made both me and my boyfriend sick (We have been travelling for 2 months and this was the only time it happened). Then our toilet didn't flush! (A bad combination). Then, rather than fixing our problem they told us to use the toilet in the "gym". Overall, room was not very clean either. Give it a miss, please!!! I hope I help someone by convincing them not to stay there!!!!!!
An all-around great find
The NWL is a terrific value for all of the ameniities provided. Located in the older Banglamphu district, it's a stone's throw from Khao San Road (hippie backpacker paradise) and the Chao Phraya river.
Super friendly staff, clean rooms and a secure feeling make the NWL a solid recommendation for travellers on a budget, but not wanting to sacrifice amenities...
There is also a good restaurant and western breakfast in their on-site restaurant!
