Nkruma Road Mombasa, Kenya
Jambo! Mombasa is Kenya's second largest city located on an island on the southeast coast and has a large Muslim population. From the moment I arrived I noticed the temperature difference. It is extremely hot and humid here and I haven't sweat this much since Ethiopia. The Old Town of Mombasa consists of a myriad of winding alleyways that one can easily get lost in. The main sight in Old Town, and in Mombasa iteself, is Fort Jesus. This is a fort built in 1593 by the Portuguese, converted int...
Mombasa, Kenya jeneggenerMombasa was really really humid and hot. Therefore we pushed the boat out and got a room at the new Palm Tree Hotel (2000Ksh with breakfast - only if you like eggs or 1800Ksh without) with air conditioning. LOVELY and VERY VERY COLD (when I set it !!!). The hotel was not the same as when Karl last came here as it has changed ownership and therefore the bar has now dissappeared and they don't serve sausages as they are Muslim owners. I did not really do much as it was too hot/humid. We did wal...

Tiwi, Coast, Kenya miles1... t worry its right around the corner”. 11:30 we finally arrived. It had been seventeen hours!! Why they couldn’t tell us that from the beginning I don’t know. The other thing is that Mombasa is actually its own island. On one end of the island there is a ferry to take you across and the other end has a bridge. Well, we were told the whole time that we were taking a ferry but in reality the plan was to take the ...
Mombasa, Coast, Kenya taliasegal... the coast from its ramparts. There was a small exhibition in the fort of Portuguese wall paintings which were quite interesting although not particularly artistic! After visiting the fort we found the Mombasa Club that Soraya’s parents used to go to, the hospital Soraya was born in and found the street that her parents used to have an apartment on. In the evening we met up with some of Soraya’s relatives and went for dinner at a nice Indian place.<br><br ...
Mombasa, Kenya paul_dulaisTime is drawing to an end ..... Well it's been six weeks and most of you thought I'd survive two at the outset! I look like a liquorish allsort, I've got burnt bits and ghostly white bits strategically placed where mosquitos can't get at me during the day or night, the more toasted bits hiding an array of bites collected from visiting some pretty horrible areas and where mostly the mosi/insect repellent slides off in the heat; there should be a warning ...

Mombasa, Kenya taste_the_world... you're not cold unless you have the flu or something! Anyway, we got to Mombosa and hopped over to Tiwi Beach. We were basically the only ones on the beach. When the tide went out we were walking up to the water's edge and realized we were actually walking on reef. It was really cool because we saw all these sea creatures up close that we've never seen before.
Tiwi, Kenya southernmegs... up only 10 percent of the world's population, it comprises over two-thirds of the AIDS victims worldwide. The most frightening thing I noticed while in Africa was that many people either deny there is an actual AIDS problem or do not comprehend the severity of the problem. Even in South Africa where more AIDS cases have been reported than anywhere else in Africa, the Minister of Health made the outrageous claim that eating lots of vegetables ...
Mombasa, Kenya nomad_chadWe Said: Having traveled quite a bit, we've found that places usually are not as bad as guidebooks or the news media lead you to believe. Before Todd went to New York City for the first time he thought he'd be lucky to get out of there without being mugged, conned, or at least caught up in a drive-by shooting. Well after being in NYC hundreds of times in the last five years, none of those has yet to happen. Even so, we both admit we were a bit wary about traveling to Africa. (By ...
