He says he dreams of going to Inner Mongolia to ride horses on the grassland and go to Xishuangbana in the tropics, but it won't happen in this life time. He's got too much obligations already. But he's not a cynic. He tells me he's driven over 10,000 km on this truck alone, I tell him that's more than 2.5 times around the world, he chuckles.

Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China trow814... biggie, we were almost out anyway. Birthday and Marriage *Went to a nice restaurant and had sushi for Sam's bday. It was soo good- I've missed sushi. Our Chinese friend Eileen surprised me with a text message that said she got married and she wanted us to meet her husband. So we went to "the boat restaurant" to celebrate Grandma & Grandpa *Our new friend John (lives in our apt building and is helping the new Korean students get adjusted) invited us to have dinner at his ...

Shijiazhuang, China chinatravelTime flys when you're having fun. I've now been in China for a month. I've already learned so much and I'm becoming more and more comfortable as the days go on. The stares and whispers are less noticable and we're building relationships with many different people. Although we'll always be considered foreigners, we're no longer foreign in our community. Tuesday night we got together with a bunch of people in our group along with three girls from ...
Shijiazhuang, China trow814... you were greedy and how it is important to learn from your elders and teachers. There were budas and places to kneel and pray to the gods and burn insents. At the back of the temple was an opening to another building that Americans were not allowed in- strictly praying Chinese! At one point a monk came out and said some stuff in Chinese and everyone followed her into a structure. She proceeded to ...
Shijiazhuang, China billiechristine... Don't remember why, but we were all drinking our beers with straws and I somehow ended up with glowsticks in my purse again. Saturday night we met up again for dinner- my first experience with duck- yeah, not my fave. After dinner we went bowling- good times. I thought itd be fun to make things a little more competitive by saying whoever had the lowest score of each lane had to chug a beer (thought it was a good idea when i was winning but ...
Shijiazhuang, China trow814... of the Qing rulers. (Rather than describe the garden, I'm including photos.) Most curious were the large rocks and boulders artfully arranged throughout the garden. These seemed, to our Northwestern eyes, to volcanic in nature. I don't think this is a volcanic region (I later confirmed this). I told that when the emperor had this place built, the rocks were brought in from, probably, southern China although no one I asked seemed to exactly where in southern China ...
Shijiazhuang + Beijing, China groverm... we thought you could go round the top, but the policeman thought otherwise. The walls are substantial stone, 10m high with 4 gates. There are no cars in the centre, and the buildings are really unspoilt. Our hotel is a combination of about 6 coutyards, with rooms off each. In the evening, we eat at a restaurant on the main street and the waitresses sit with us to practise their English and teach us a little Chinese.
