... wisdom) thought it was best for us to do the Guiness Factory tour FIRST instead of last thing Saturday afternoon. Those keen for a quick pint agreed, and off we went.

In a nutshell, the Guiness tour is a must see for anyone in Dublin. The brewery has been going for 250 years, and the Guiness family is responsible for most things in Dublin (including the Guiness book of world records, don't you know!). Guiness is celebrating it's 250th year ...

Visit to Belfast

Took a drive into Belfast this evening as I've never been before and I was curious to see it. I drive round in some trepidation as the is city has quite a violent past that is still quite vivied in my mind. I feel like I'm running some kind of guantlet by being here.

It was an odd experience in some ways, I would driving past housing areas that look like they've seen better ...

On the road again

... Then we came down to where we are now, Seaton, which since being in Devon, it seemed only fitting to have a Devonshire tea here. So we did, complete with scones, jam and clotted cream. We also found a cute wee farmers market and tried some yummy food and the best russian fudge in the world ever! (It lasted two days, good effort I say). From there we drove north-east and stopped at these really 'quaint' (I'm running out of words to describe things) tea rooms. It was someones ...

Newcastle with a Dave on the side please!

... the remote, and one hand in a crisp packet and a beer on the side. He was beaming for ear to ear. Only one thing I didn't like about the suit was the fact they didn't have any conditioner for my hair! WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT! That Night was Dave Matthews. What an Amazing gig! No supporting act but he did have Tim Reynolds with him. The things he did with that guitar. At times it felt like he was carrying Dave Matthews! We had these annoying Americans ...

Castle Crazy

... to Dunstanburgh Castle (or near enough to it). Here I hiked out to the ruins of this castle that makes good use of the coast and the crags as natural defenses to enhance the walls. Pretty majestic. Damned heat though! Balls! In need of rehydration, I decided a Bulmers/Magners was just what the Doctor (I do not know which doctor, but he's a damned good one!) ordered. I also partook of the most delicious homemade crab meat soup ...

The dreaded goodbye!

Arrived at Newcastle airport for my flight at 09.40. A group of close friends were there to say goodbye to me, with some nice presents to keep for memories. Some very nice presents. THANKS again, you lot. So, I said 'Goodbye' with lots of tears and headed off. Sat and cried most of the way on the flight looking at my cards. Couldnt even read one of them cos my eyes kept filling up. Mam and Dad travelled down with me for the day, Im glad they did ...

Ballycastle – Belfast – Drogheda

... sky finally cleared and the harbour of Belfast Lough looked a picture perfect blue – there can be no finer first impression to Belfast than the one we were welcomed with.

It’s a city I have always had a morbid fascination about, I guess because as a kid in the 1980’s Belfast and Beirut seemed to always be the two major cities stricken by violence that made the TV news. In my young mind Ireland seemed a far stranger place for warfare than Lebanon ...
