We were invited out with some of the staff on Tuesday night to Laowi Town to a quiz night which was good fun. We then met Silvie, the CP at Munchner Biergarten, the German bar on Wednesday and the Italian restaurant Thursday evenings.

Ningbo is a lovely city, built on 5 rivers, so was a trading post and from the hotel room you can watch the barges go up and down the river. There are loads of fantastic bars and restaurants and it is now quite trendy.

... from Alex saying that she was given the weekend of October 25-27 free and that we should plan something cool. As au pairs, we are entitled to one free weekend every month…it's in our contract. The second I got her text, a huge feeling of dread came over me. I don’t think that I can even speak for that long let alone explain what I’m saying. My host mom tried to take away my free Monday next week and tried to replace ...

... minutes away from me. Her host mother told her that the Chinese Au Pair company informed the host families that their au pairs can do everything. They are the best cooks, the best English speakers, the most well behaved, the best childcare providers, just the best ever. What they forgot to tell them was that we are also human. After visiting her home, it made me feel more grateful for my host family. Her host mother is in her late twenties and is as superficial as they ...

... the city by myself. I remember when I was in Europe with a group of Americans and I was completely lost a lot of the time. My roommates and I got on the wrong bus in Amsterdam and then got dropped off far from our hotel. Both times, we could not find our way for the life of us. But there I was, in the middle of China taking the bus by myself and feeling fine. Since Ningbo is not as westernized as other cities, I was the only foreigner among the thousands of people. Surprisingly, ...
