... some of us went next door to Happy Snapper for a night cap. This late night music bar (just about the only one in Khao Lak) generally attracts mainly a younger set. The beer is expensive but one of the performers, a feisty young Thai girl with an amazing voice and boundless energy, is worth seeing. There was no sign of her however and investigations revealed that sadly she has now moved on to Phuket.

... had collected his wife from the airport and so there was also the possibility of seeing what this long suffering lady was like, about whom I’d heard a lot. In the event there was no sign of the girls and so I found myself once more in the company of Germans - Martin, Uli and his wife Gaby (Clark Kent glasses and thick wild hair). The conversation switched back and fore from German to English until Martin shot off to accompany the guitarist on the drums and I found an excuse to head home.

... was feeling fine and actually thought that the rash was getting better she had decided not to take the tablets unless it flared up again. We decided to push the boat out for New Year’s Eve and eat at Phu Khao Lak’s restaurant. It was full when we arrived but they managed to squeeze “Mama” and her friends in and we had an amazing meal of Thai fish cakes and chicken satay for starters and then fish cooked in a variety of ways for the main course. ...

We ended our week in Thailand with a night in Phuket as our flight out was very early in the morning and we wanted to avoid having too early a start. The resort in Phuket was nice enough but we'd honestly advise anyone considering a holiday in the area to head a bit further up the coast to Khao Lak as we had an amazing time there.
