... few postures that are acceptable when in a temple and each one is fairly uncomfortable. It’s very rude to point your feet at a Buddha statue or a speaker at the front of the room so we only had 3 postures to choose from: cross legged, kneeling, or mermaid. They all hurt, in fact the first 2 days were absolutely excruciating. Us westerners are not used to sitting on the floor all the time, we have these things called chairs. Sitting on the ground is common in eastern cultures, Thais ...
Chaiya, Surat Thani, Thailand tranquillize... there was supposed to be music and good times. The first wagon had indeed been turned into a club with early 90's techno pumping and strobe lights flashing. Beer in hand and ah, that's life! The train screeched to a halt in Surat Thani early in the morning and we were quickly ushered to a bus that would take us to the ferry port. Funny note about the bus: it must be a retired European tourist bus since it had Eiffel tower and the Tower of Pisa ...
Surat Thani, Thailand johannajulien... parts. The next morning we walked into the "park entrance" at an inflated foreigners fee of 200 baht (locals pay 10 baht). There was a trail system and a basic map so we picked the longest trail and gave it a go. About one in the afternoon we found ourself at the end of the trail. That was it. There were waterfalls listed on the map which turned out to be class 2 rapids at best on a lazy river. We ...
Khao Sok National Park, Thailand lucaswnash... suggests. Vital equipment for the somnambulently challenged traveller. 1) Ear plugs. 2) Eye mask. You may not sleep but you at least partially block out the noisy Aussie **** who, having failed his audition for neighbours, is going to console himself with a holiday in Phuket. Phuket sounds truly dreadful and I'm sure it sounds even more dreadful with him there. Sensory deprivation ...
Surat Thani, Thailand planetgeli... The other crew went into peels of laughter ! Slowly, and steadily we kayaked back to the start point but not before we kicked one kayak out of the way to avoid collission and in the process pushing them behind. It was finally curtains down as we were exhausted for the day. It was a great day in all! 30 May 08- Adieu Krabi!! The day to bid adieu to lovely Thailand had come and we left by afternoon flight to Bangkok and further to New Delhi with all the happy memories!!
Bangkok and Krabi, Thailand rahulbhatia20... waking me, but apparently the items that I did not safeguard were enticing enough to be taken - though I can't fathom why. I did a thorough check and nothing else was missing...). Having left Koh Samui at 12:30pm, traveled all afternoon and night with little sleep, we were all dropped off at an undisclosed Bangkok location around 5:30am. The area wasn't bad (felt a lot safer than being on the bus), but I'm pretty sure the bus operator was ...
Surat Thani, Surat Thani, Thailand jeffrey.peo... lessons from a guy who works there. Since we showed an interest in how Saddam came across his name, every time we order food there he painstakingly goes through each item of food giving us the Thai word for each! Cant remember most of it but Nam is apparently Milk and Nam Tuk is Coffe Whitener! The beach is where most of the activity happens by night too, with each restaurant setting out tables and chairs right down to the seafront, each ...
Surat Thani, Thailand lcordiner... folk splashing about. Already in our suits and with the humidity leaving us only a fraction drier than if we were literally submerged, we hop in. After a short trip to a disembarkation area, we are whisked off to a sad little roadside zoo that includes a gibbon on a leash, various exotic birds hanging in birdcages from the roof and four wild boars in a short, squat wire cage. Not a cool hang and we're quick to ...
Khao Sok, Thailand steve_julie... nothing so I thought, but when i pressed the power off button there was a very loud cracking noise, a large spark/flash, and it died. So not cool. I guess maybe my hands were still slightly damp, or a stray raindrop sneaked it somehow, but come on this is ridiculous! So I'm going to phone Samsung and try and get it fixed under warranty or something, see what I can blag :oS Anyways, other than that downer I have had a fantabulous 2 days :oD We started off early with a ...
Khao Sok National Park, Thailand laura_sheen... resplendent in groomed military style uniforms. They looked quite authoritarian in their olive green slacks and shirts with epaulettes, shiny badges and berets. They had radios around their belts that could pass on a glimpse as weapons. We were directed to the last carriage and eventually found our seats - which we had walked past and were the very last seats on the train. Nicole and I were seated across the aisle from each other with a woman and her young son and ...
