... compartment has 6 not too hard beds, but no doors at all. As a train travel can take up to 20 hours, people have brought their food to prepare & eat on the train . It can get very messy after a couple of hours (I'm deliberately not mentioning the toilets !). On each train you can also get thermos cans with hot water to make tea ...
Tokyo, Kanto, Japan mandarinaWell I finally arrived after a 12 hour flight and the jetlag is getting the better of me this evening. Today I visited Shibuya (probably the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world). There is a statue there of a dog called hachicko. The story goes that this dog used to wait outside the station every day until his owner came back from work. When ...
No hablan, susurran. En el avion, de gran mayoria japonesa, parecia que volvieramos de un funeral. Ni las dos ninyas sentadas detras de ...
Tokyo, Kanto, Japan pablostrubell... slowly louder and louder. Of course passers by were somewhat alarmed including me, but then i remembered me the stuff Ive seen in England and i have to say it made me laugh. At home these guys would have both been either in hand cuffs or in hospital (or both). Id put money on the fact that no punches were thrown.. We are really starting to enjoy our lifestyle here. We have a local very friendly pub where lots of teachers drink and where ...

Tokyo, Japan djkizza... buying train tickets can be nerve wracking. Kyoto Our next destination was Kyoto, Kyoto is Japan without all the hustle and bustle of the city. It is very relaxed and has alot of history to it, alot of temples and shrines and ancient buildings to peruse... we actually could have done more time here, we spent too much time visiting Fushimi Inari *sp* and had to cut some other places short. It is a very nice city though and train station serves as a hub in the south ...
Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Japan gred7820061013-02 20061013-02 Landing off to Tokyo We had seven hour free either at the airport or at the town. Of course, we chose the town! The customs people say we should line in another queue for transit. But we expressed strong interest to go to the town. And he says yes, "you got lots of time. The ...
Narita, Japan annchouI must say I had a good sleep. Maybe it was the fact I`d slept on the bare floor the last 4 nights. Maybe it was the experience of staying in a classical style Tatami room on a futon. Maybe it was just the relief of having such fantastic and warm hosts that took all my worries away. Whatever the reason, I certainly slept with an ear-to-ear grin. With Shiho and Yoshi kind enough to show me the sights today, I awoke to the smells of a delicious breakfast and went over the plans for the day ...
Tokyo, Japan kiemceWow. Tokyo. After what seemed like a rather quick flight over, I breezed through immigration and customs, strapped on my backpack, which is performing flawlessly, and headed for the train. Getting my ticket and finding the train into Tokyo took next to no effort. I have been very surprised. All the transportation signage is in English. Getting around couldn`t be easier if they led me by the ...
