Speaking now of dogs, we bumped into a lovely rescue Aussie named Barkley - a red Merle of sorts - three years of age. Apparently there is a woman in the area who goes to kill shelters
and rescues them. She fosters them out locally until they can be adopted. I think Harley would consider her one of 'Harley's Heroes' for sure! While we stood chatting with the couple about Barkley, another beautiful Harlequin Merle ...
... t put us down, and we carried on exploring the town, which appeared to have recently had a stage of the Tour of California because of the flags up around town. But handily we were early enough to leave before the mad man went on a shooting spree in the area killing quite a few people! But a short drive down the beach and a bit of dinner in the town, and we decided to get out of there, and make it down to just outside L.A at ...
After a strong MacDonalds coffee we headed up the coast to Santa Barbara, what a beautiful place. We caught the electric train and went to the beach. Had a walk on the pier, and walked through the town, so pretty. After lunch we got back on the road and headed north. We ended up driving up a windy road to find a camping spot. We saw some beautiful big redwoods in the forest, but decided to stop and camp close to the beach area.
We had an early start today: so with the flash light we un-hooked the motorhome. Already on the road by 6.45, we saw the sunrise on our way along the Hwy 101 and the ocean … a long drive through LA… and finally we met the desert.

... he uses that on everyone. We got on the road and out of San Francisco and heading south in the direction of Santa Barbara. Thommo wanted to drive the pacific highway, although it's 2 hours longer it has better views as you drive right next to the ocean.
