Llovski Stradon 23B Ljubljana, Slovenia
At the MUM camp we met Iva and she offered five of us from Biketour, who would travel together to Zagreb, a place to stay and she even organized a party in her and her families house! It was really good to stay for a few days at a real house, where we could all have our own room with even a bed! On the party we met a lot of people we met earlier in the permaculture project in Vucomeric, Zagreb and at the MUM camp. Even Erik who left the biketour just ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia holadiyo... Kranjska Gora, the Vrsic mountain pass, the source of the Soca River, traditional Slovenian for lunch, as well as a fantastic car train trip to Lake Bohinj.

The main event however, was rafting on the freezing chalky blue waters of the Soca. While the rapids weren't huge it was great fun and the scenery was so distracting it was dangerous. We rafted for about two hours and by the end only one of the two rafts made it after pretty terrible ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia justinrowe... his time taking the **** out the Americans (with them totally oblivious to it all of course) and had a story for every conversation. After a good sleep we were on the mini-bus for our day trip, along with an American (this one was a really great guy, unlike recent ones we’d met!), a young Irish couple, a Croatian girl and a couple more Aussies. Had a cracking day, doing some hiking in the Vrsic Mountain Pass (still ...
Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia tiffscott... the thing that caught my attention about the city was actually the graffiti- i walked the streets fascinated in the paintings people have sprayed on the walls. The city is cheap. Ten Euros for a huge salad, and 3 double espressos. Insane- it would have cost me double if I was in France or Portugal. My day consisted of walking. And whn I decided to leave the city I sat a killed some time, since it was so hot I sat and drank a few beers. I was rather amusing I felt so light headed. I ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia nat_in_a_hat... I noticed people above me climbing down. 'This should be interesting' I told myself and waited for the inevitable squeeze as we tried to pass each other as they came nearer I wondered how we would manage it. Next thing, they were below me, still descending. How was this possible? What I hadn't noticed was that there are actually two winding staircases intertwining on their way up and down from the tower. One stairway for the traffic going up, and one ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia guykb... subscribe (or unsubscribe) at any time in upper section of the left column on the page. Resources: Where we stayed: Hostel Celica - Once an old military prison, this hostel is run by a nonprofit student arts organization and has been voted the hippest hostel in the world. Where we ate: * Ljubljanski Dvor - The setting right along the water can't be beat. And the pizza isn't bad either!
Ljubljana, Slovenia chronometers... seemed to swallow up the rest of the day. In the evening, we headed out for drinks with our new Californian friend Emily from the hostel and got caught in (yet another) thunderstorm which drenched us through. Still, we had good fun that day and the rain didn't bother us. DAY THREE Technically, Day Three isn't over yet, as I'm frantically writing this before we go out to dinner. But as you can see from the photos, today was spent wandering around the ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia tiddlywink... left the area for the US in 1957.) We spent much of the weekend moving from house to house visiting with all of the family. Of course, ¡¥visiting¡¦ consisted of them asking a question in Slovenian, Nina translating to English for us, our reply, and Nina translating our response into Slovenian for them. A bit of a delayed approach, but as the weekend progressed we all came to better understand universal ...
Loska Dolina, Slovenia scotthace... caves had lovely coloured rocks and mad shapes of the stalagmites and stalagtites which had slowly dripped down over hundreds and hundreds of years. I got yacking to a group of Aussie guys who had a hire car and we drove back together to the city. They were looking for accommodation and the groovy hostel which used to be a jail was fully booked so they came along to my place. We all went out for an Italian meal and had a good laugh.
Ljubljana, Slovenia jen75... a short drive from the Italian border, also saw its share of wartime action. Hemingway´s novel, A Farewell to Arms, was based on the last battle of the Soca Front during WWI. Here Slovenians fought alongside Austro-Hungarian and German troops against the Italians in the biggest mountain war in history. The one million casualties included many people from the local villages of Kobarid and Bovec. The Austrian and Italian hordes still come here. We found every pension full ...
