Awoken by the alarm at 6am, we showered and packed our Backpacks. Time to move on. After leaving the key at the desk we hailed a passing Blue Taxi to take us to the Goldenmile Bus Stop. A visit to the ATM then the ticket office saw us sitting in a bus waiting to go to Malaysia. They gave us a drink and a bun each and then we were of through Singapore. Land of thousands of apartments. There is still a lot of construction happening in Singapore. A movie starts but its not long till were at the ...

pork ribs, pig trotters or minced chicken. The beef noodles also come
with a bowl of flavorful dark beef consomme. The stall is crowded on
weekends. Just make sure you give them a call before going there if you are unsure of the funny closing day.

... she didn't get out much and therefore didn't really know where anything was so we decided to give it a miss! She did direct us to another bus stop where our day finally got moving again! Rich decided to go back to the hostel as he wasn't feeling very well but the rest of us carried on [Rich: I'd been getting worse all day, but waiting for an hour around midday in the hot sun without any shade pretty much finished me off ]. After a brief stop at Hang Tuah mall, where Andy ...
Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia cereal42... guest house, in another dorm. Again it was one big room, but this time no bunk beds, there were about 20 beds, 10 down each side of the room, which gave it a kind of military feel. Even thought there were less people and more room, it did feel like you had a lot less personal space. You were sleeping out in an open room, with strangers. But still it was clean and most importantly cheap, and it had a nice lounge downstairs. On the first night, I met a ...
Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia loumac... work for suggesting it! Unfortunately the tour itself wasn't the best but I was glad we went! We got a lot of history of the place, which is intertwined with Indian, Indonesian, Chinese and Malaysian history. Oh and the Portuguese, Dutch and British. ☺ We visited some temples, the area there showed how the Chinese there had evolved and taken on Islam so the mosques were unique in that they were developed onto the previous Chinese temples ...
Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia shanemilli... and went across the road for lunch in, err, Pizza hut (well you've got to sometimes!) I killed the rest of the time on the internet, which is what I had planned to do in Melaka anyway, and caught the bus, as planned, at 5pm. The journey took 4 hours and it would have been fine if there had been at least one toilet stop along the way. My taxi driver later informed me you have to ask if you want to stop - damn it! In addition I had horrendous indigestion (that'll teach me for ...
Melaka, Malaysia becpowell... NOT easy to find. When we finally find one, Dr T tells me about all the legends and stories. Wanna hear some? The 19the century, the Chinese moved in and brought the Peranakan culture. To name one thing: marriages were arranged and the couple did not see each other before the wedding. Even during the ceremony, the bride was veiled. When the couple finally went to bed, the bride took of her veil and the broom had to say: 'Lady, I have to be rude ...
Melaka, Malaysia tonyandmarina... a lot of tourists, both foreign and domestic. As a result of this it is littered which ****** little markets and stalls selling the kind of **** that only a tourist would even consider buying. Rickshaw drivers were everywhere and would be a constant hassle all day, they were even waiting outside the car when we arrived (how do they do that? like a magic genie or something ...
Melaka, Malaysia benabroad... sense of humour, and burnt herself quite badly on the hand after we arrived by trying to move the ironing board out of our room, with the hot iron still sitting on it... Malacca's a lovely spot, with Chinatown (where we're based) full of little alleyways to explore, with the ubiquitous hanging red lanterns everywhere, and lots of old temples, mosques and churches (though mostly Chinese temples). Malacca also has the oldest ...
Malacca, Malaysia dconlisk... remains of the Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial forces, as well as some Japanese. As such, there is architecture here that I haven't seen the likes of in quite awhile. For example, the town square is presided over by Christ Church, a stately building construced by the Dutch after taking over the area from the Portuguese. Next to the Church is the Stadthuys, which is the old government house ...
