The next day, we caught the bus to Ipoh and made our way to our hotel for the next two days - the New Caspian Hotel - which was quite close to the centre of Ipoh. Ipoh itself is very industrialised, with most of the small number of sites that are worth visiting being located further out from the centre and requiring a taxi ride. We decided that the following morning we would head to see the Perak Tong Temple (a Chinese cave temple) and Kellie's Castle, choosing to eat that evening at the D'Ni...
Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia sumnerp... got a taxi up to the plantation where it was first grown and still is to this day. The scenes were stunning with tea plants as far as you can see and much of it is still picked by hand so lots of people in the fields. They've got a visitor centre with info on the tea and it's all very nice. We went on a tour when we were there to be shown how tea is made. I don't know why but we were expecting it to be a bit more complicated. When we went on the vineyard tour in ...
Kota Bharu, Perak, Malaysia elinebouckaert... Raiders, a little girl seemed to be struggling in the water. The nearest life guard blew his whilst 3 times, threw off his cap, sunglasses and t-shirt before diving into the water to her rescue. HE DIDN'T HELP US! The girl seemed a bit confused as to why she was being rescued, and the life guard had both; over reacted, and was hilarious. His whistling was not needed because the pool was empty, and his smug face afterwards was excellent. He looked so pleased with himself, like ...

Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia nz2uk... back to the room. Tom and I decided to go to the local Supermarket and make our own dinner that night. We bought bread, chilli and mayonnaise tinned tuna spread, crisps, water and mango juice. All in all it cost RM8.10 each and was our dinner, snack, and breakfast rolled into one. In the evening we decided on some more bowling. Chris won the first game with 123, Tom got 101, and I shamefully got 95 (sorry for letting the side down Sam and Rob, I was very embarrassed ...
Taiping, Perak, Malaysia cereal42... as she felt I needed to eat (maybe she knows me from another life?!), which was very considerate of her. After half an hour or so we were summoned to go and a nice man also travelling on the bus, ushered us one by one under the drivers umbrella to... the same bus! And in the torrential rain we set off to KL - I never found out what was supposedly wrong with the bus, but it got us there and that's all I cared about! There were 6 students on the bus who also invited me to ...
Tanah Rata, Malaysia becpowellWhat happens when you take Malaysia's most extensive hill station at 1300 meters with a cool climate valued by the british colonials, western tourists, and farmers for its cool climate and then fast forward it into the modern day third world? You get the Cameron Highlands which is a very interesting place whch we had heard quite a bit about but didn't really know what to expect. The good news is that the weather lived up to its reputation ...
