Staff friendly. Close to everything. Bed super huge. TV antiquated but adequate. Breakfast is a buffet and more than can eat.

          Village life...

A travel blog entry by hortonsontour on Jul 30, 2014

After a broken night's sleep for me (I kept finding animal droppings on the bed!) slept with Mum in the one room that had air conditioning... I decided to get up early and go for a run…took a bottle of water and headed off on the same path as the day before… after a while all the paths and alleys began to the look the same…until I started seeing the same people waving…one group of school kids kept laughing and waving… I ...

Halong Bay to Hanoi then train to Hue

... I tried to stay up to blog, but was tired so I went to sleep shortly after. Colson snuggled with Tanja on her bunk, which was fine at first, but they must turn off the air conditioning as the temperature in our little bunk rose considerably. It must have hit over 30C in there by about 2am and I was sweating buckets - with the noise of the train I couldn't hear, or listen for, the gnawing of mice on our bags if that was happening. Probably for the ...

Caves and more, Hanoi - Hue - Phong Nha - Hue

... with had to catch a bus to Hanoi, we were unable to see the famous Paradise Cave, but from what I hear it is just a massive and dry version of Phong Nha.

That night by scooter I tried to find someone known only as "the chicken lady" who will let you try to catch and kill your own chicken. Working off of a nearly incomprehensible map, I rode down a dirt road (not accessible by car) to find a place with the sign "pub with cold ...

... be okay if me and him shared a seat. We've done it before. When we arrived at the bus stop the guy taking our ticket told us that we would have space all the way in the back. Also he would give us an extra seat side by side since we have kids. Without the opportunity to reply he led us to the back. Little did we know as we settled in our spot he expected us to pay for the 3rd seat and at a higher price than our original two seats. ...

          ... shepherd around the city.

We were glad to get out of the heat. We enjoy our time exploring every day, but walking into our A/C chilled room with our clothes drenched in sweat feels like we’ve gone from laying on hot asphalt in the middle of the road to having ice cold towels draped all over our bodies--always so nice after the 100 degree heat and 85% humidity. We had to shower and get ready so that we ...
