... to get our hands on that TILE! The third "must do" that afternoon was for Gretchen to get an outstanding tour of the culinary kitchen area, an spacious galley operated 24/7 including 2 restaurant and the culinary arts center. Every day 8000 meals are prepared with over 5000 lbs of flour used for the breads alone. It's not a surprise that our substantial gain weight during these past 2 weeks can be blamed on the 100 men ...

As it was the hottest part of the day and the humidity must have been about 85% we thought we would get a taxi to the mall and cool off in some air conditioning for a few hours until it cooled down. We spent one full day in Makasser which is a busy and frantic port metropolis, gateway to the rest of Sulawesi. We walked a couple of miles along some noisy seething roads to the modern ...

... Funerals can last up to 4 days, with up to 30 buffalo & pigs being slaughtered for sacrifice. Friends & relatives must bring an animal to sacrifice. The coffin is then put into a chamber cut into a clifface/boulder/cave/hung from cliff or in the case of a baby into a hole in a tree! A strange culture indeed that revolves around death. The toraja people also have extremely elaborate, intricately carved timber framed houses & rice barns with ...
