... and bars. Whilst undeniably attractive with beautifully restored old buildings and splendid medieval churches, the pedestrian friendly Corso was jam packed with local and European visitors and the local open cafes busy and loud with live musical entertainment. For us the over the top and rather tacky tourist orientation disappointingly detracted from the inherent beauty of the fascinating old city.

... hypothesising what I should do if my eyeball juice was to freeze over.

Later in the week I moved on to Taormina, a city settled by the Greeks, on the otherside of Etna. According to tradition, the Acireale's origins trace back to Xiphonia, a mysterious Greek city now completely disappeared. In Roman times, there existed another Greek town, Akis, which was involved in the Punic Wars.

After a good nights rest I woken up to a breakfast of Granita and Brioche. I believe it has been the staple diet for the whole time I have been in Sicily. The day was enjoyed relaxing by the waters of the Ionian sea and as well the frequent dips. The Mediterranean water are quite warm, but under currents which thrust into the water are freezing. After a while those shots of icy water ...
