Malaga

After days at sea we had a short stop in Malaga before docking the next day back in Savona. I have decided that I am not crazy about the days at sea. Even though I really enjoyed all the ports, I don't think I would do anther big curise. The fact that there were only small number of people who spoke enlgish on the ship was interesting. So wanted to speak another language .. any lanaugage. Even when I told the Germans I did nto speak Germann they kept talking!

... it was her first time ever making a turkey in the oven. She also told me that she spent two weeks looking on the Internet for a recipe on how to cook a turkey. I really appreciate that she did that and that she put so much effort into making it. It was really nice of her to help us feel at home. Even though it was different it was still very good. A very good Spanish Thanksgiving. She also told me that I need to visit Barcelona ...

    Thanksgiving in Frigiliana

... hacking and coughing going on by a few people in our car, it was a wonderful train trip (we referred to our car as the sick bay).

We spent the next week in the beautiful village of Frigliana, Spain (about 40 miles east of Malaga). We took a bus to the coastal city of Nerja and then a 10 minute bus ride into the hills of Frigiliana. Frigiliana is known as Las Villas de las tres culturas or the city of three cultures ...

... this 5 euro mojito that he wasn’t going to drink. I asked him why he didn’t just ask for her to replace the drink and he told me that it is extremely rare for a bartender to ever replace a drink and that the Spaniards will usually never complain. I told him that I would go tell the bartender that we’d like to exchange the mojito and he was a little surprised. In my mind I was correct, if you don’t like it you ...

... are run very well and others are not. Talking of being well run, the Hostal we are in at the moment, Hostal Miguel (www.hostalmiguel.com) , is absolutely delightful. For 41E we have a 'suite' of rooms (it's 2 rooms that are used for families but instead of children we have bikes) with a little balcony overlooking the hustle and bustle of the old town in Nerja. There's a fridge in our room, which is a real luxury and they've even got a sun umbrella that ...

... I've ever met. They wouldn't even let us pay for anything. We had great conversations about all the topics known to mankind. They all grew up in Holland, but have lived here in Spain for a year and a half. At one point, we got them to teach us a few phrases in Dutch which was very entertaining. After hearing them converse fluently in three different languages over the course of the weekend, I have decided that I really want to learn at least one more language at ...

... is the Sala de los Mozárabes, whose name is perhaps derived from the three stalactite arches which form the entrance to the Court of the Lions. To the south is the Sala de Abencerrajes, famous in legend with a gateway decorated with lazo (ornamental knots). Light penetrates the hall through 16 graceful fretwork windows. On the east side is the Sala de los Reyes which is unusual and resembles a theatrical set, divided in three sections which correspond to three lovely porticos ...
