... We drove to Le Touquet, arriving at lunchtime. We had a cuppa in the Manior Hotel. It was very busy with the French golfers, Maybe it's match day. The outside is having a big paint job done, the inside looks the same. When we walked over to the golf course we had quite a shock! The clubhouse is gone, and an enormous one is in the process of being built. There's a portocabin being used to pay in, and as a pro shop. There's no changing room ...
... a car park, now it's a lovely garden. From there we walked down to the port, to see the fishing boats come in with their catch. It was quite distressing to see them clean their nets. Any fish caught by its fins, was ripped out and tossed over the boardwalk. A few made it back to the sea alive, but most died and were eaten by the seagulls, cormorants and shags who fought over them. There were loads of fish stalls, and loads ...
... and we were off to investigate. We learned that Boulogne-sur-Mer is nicknamed 'city of art and history'. The archway took us to the old town, and it's cobbled streets. Practically the first bar we came across was were we stopped for a glass of wine. It was still sunny and warm enough to sit outside. The glass of wine was enormous, the glass was big enough to wash your feet in! I bought myself a pair of oven mitts from the little shop ...
... and are given the option of taking the 16:45 at same price, or, 16:00 for £20 extra, we opt to pay the £20.
By now, it is raining heavily, with accompanying thunder and lightening.
Shopping and sight seeing (in that order!) A quick walk round the ramparts then lunch at La Petite Auberge in the old town. Moules et Frites of course! Started to rain slightly as we went into the crypt of the Notre Dame, was chucking it down when we came ...
