      A day at the beach

A travel blog entry by prgeeves on Oct 15, 2014

Up early but a very leisurely start to the day. Our first view of Lifou from the balcony was one of beaches and lush green tropical stuff. The water was a number of shades of stunning blue. After breakfast in our cabin we left Dad to it and headed for the tender. We hit the island about 08:30 and it was already nice and warm. Lots of locals offering to bead our hair until they saw under my hat. Then they offered massages instead. We turned left at the carpark ...

Day 11: 12 July – Isle of Pines

Early breakfast today as our excursion left at 8.45am and we have to be tendered ashore. Fantastic sunrise this morning as we neared the Isle of Pines. We met a couple more Kiwis this morning as we walked along the deck. They were from Wellington and Foxton Beach and on their first cruise. It was a beautiful day to go ashore and enjoy the beach. Our tour (A Glimpse of the ...

      Saturday 7 June, Day 13
We are at Isles des Pines today, which was a French penal colony from 1872. The native people (known as Kanaks or Kunies) maintain strong control over the island through the tribal system. Once again we don't have any organised tours today, but we took the tender boat on to the island to go snorkeling in shallow, crystal ...

      Friday 6 June, Day 12.

We are at Lifou Island, part of the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia, which is a "Compartement" of France. Alan & Jo have gone ashore for a tour, but we didn't see anything that appealed to us so we are staying put and enjoying the sunshine next to the ...

Today we woke up in Mare', New Caledonia. The scenery was beautiful.

The only thing to do in Mare' is go to Yejele (Jelly) Beach so we didn’t rush this morning. Cam woke up perfectly fine and ready to explore (yay) and the boys were treated to breakfast in bed again.

We had to board the tender again to go ashore, and we were greeted by the locals singing. There was a little market ...
