... br>The best bit about yesterday has to be that Tom went out looking for dinner whilst i grabbed a shower, and when he came back, he had chips and sausage! We have eaten nothing but noodles and rice with spicy food stuffs for 10 days to finally have something mildly english, was amazing. Even if the chips were under-cooked, and the sausage over-cooked. Oh well.

We're off to Kunming today on a train, heading south to Laos.
Guiyang, Guizhou, China tomsara... going to the police station! a woman took us here. I always say that the police should help the people, not terrifed them - and this is true here too!

We are well - it is hot and humid, and Billy told us to eat less and to drink more water - I tasted their tea and coffee: not recomendated but that's what they have. water we buy - but there are containers of purified free water everywhere - Eyal is afraid to drink it.

Guyang, Guizhou, China rivkapi... ages though....12 would be early!
people have been doing that at most gigs so far and they've all been really nice and its been heaps of fun to go out with them and taste the food (we seem to always have midnight meals!) and then crash after that! after the second Chongqing gig (at Nuts club) we went and got barbeque which is great!! - you choose which skewers you want...there's like potato, zucchini, mushrooms, meats, intestines, chicken skin ...
Guiyang, Guizhou, China jazzlou... spooky. Helen, our guide, was obviously quite bemused at this unusual stopover and sent a pic' to her boss of the Crazy Cables!

More mountains and another, even longer and taller suspension bridge under completion. Later we stopped for lunch. We were glad that Helen didn't take us to the restaurant next to us as it served dog! We are in the Guizhou Province where dog is the provincial delicacy. We leave this province tomorrow, so the dogs are safe for now!
<br ...
Guiyang, Guizhou, China nz2ukAm I the only one to feel a little uncomfortable about this exoticizing of a person by Chinese . . . Tourism official becomes an attraction herself As the deputy director of a county tourism bureau in Guizhou province, A Xiang-yi's job is to attract as many people as possible to her home region. The underdeveloped Leishan county is home to people of various ethnic groups, of which Miao people account for 83.5 percent of the residents. But in the past week, the 26-year-old ethnic ...
Guiyang, Guizhou, China happysheepIn our daily walk before breakfast, Monika joins a Taiqi group, and I play badminton for sme minutes with local people at the park. Then some poor breakfast, a quick shower and head for our first visit: Qingyan Old Town. A typical scenery of chinese ancient films, a grey wall sorrounding the town, small buldings with inner terraces, narrow stony streets...and the non-stopping rain. We must buy an umbrella and Michael also to continue the visit ...

When Briton Samuel Pollard came to Shimenkan (Stone Gateway Village) in the early 1900's he worked hard to research leprosy and increase the community's awareness. He wrote articles, recorded data and created leper colony along with a specialized leprosy hospital (the earliest leprosy hospital recorded in Chinese history) several kilometers from Shimenkan where leprosy patients could ...
Shimenkan, China cncp... s committee held their first annual Women's Festival Day. The festivities consisted of women celebrating traditional activities such as script writing, singing, dancing, and playing the music of the minority and Han people groups in the area, while dressed in traditional costumes. Xinzai women have been able to enjoy and expand this festival for three years. Aside from her committee work and farming potatoes, tobacco, and corn with her ...
Shimenkan, China cncp... eat on the fly if it allows me to do something new or of particular interest. I suppose I would not turn down a tour of French vineyards which is a reasonable comparison to make with the traditional Chinese tourist experience. At times over the weekend one or other or both of us were cranky, but it was also a testament to how close we've become. We've both had a few up and down weeks in Shenzhen and now was time to flush it all out of the system. Cycling by the river on ...
Guiyang, China robjstaples... hour of 7am in Guiyang. We weren't expecting too much from Guiyang, and so when we only had the option of train tickets for Chengdu either the same day or in 3 days time, we opted for heading onwards that arvo. Guiyang really doesn't have enough to last 3 days. I had toyed with the idea of popping over to Huangguoshu - China's largest waterfall and a daytrip from here - but by the time we sorted out ...
