Kaunas, Lithuania friederbi... him. A small something to cuddle at night, when I'm missing him.

Laura, very kindly, let me spend half of Monday uploading photos - which takes forever. Meanwhile, the kids amused themselves by asking Grandmother for a peach, then cracking up because she gave them a tomato instead.

It was a lovely, much needed, chill day.
Kaunas, Lithuania rachelkw... be a bit of a risk but the alternative was to leave the car... given that we lost our car on Day 1 we totally sympathised and probably would have stayed had we been in their position.... We finally arrived in Kaunas at 0115 am... pretty knackered. Kaunas is pretty quiet so I think we are all heading straight to bed. Total donations to date £2575 (before including the any of the tax benefit).
Kaunas, Lithuania dumballdukes... was the Runsdale Palace (still in Latvia) built by the husband of the Empress Anna of Russia, in the style of Versailles & the Winter Palace in St Petersburg. This palace was built in the 1700s, but largely neglected in the Soviet years. They began restoration in the 1970s & those are still going on. Currently around 48 rooms are restored (out of a total of 138). The last to be restored and re-opened to the public is the Duke's dressing room. As I say, some parts of ...
Kaunas, Lithuania austega... to the bus terminal tomorrow morning," the landlady told me. "But I am leaving very early. I must be at the terminal already at six." "No problem," they assured me. "Sure?" It seemed sure. Just in case, I decided to fix an appointment with the neighbour early enough, so if he should sleep in or for any other reason "forget" our deal, I would still have time to get there by taxi. After that I paid, took over the keys and went out. It turned out I would sleep only a few metres away ...
Kaunas, Lithuania the_wayfarerAt Sandra's birthday me, Babso (Australas), Donatas, Vaida decided to hitchhike to Kaunas and party here for the weekend! It was a really good idea! Autostop was perfect, for me and Donatas took only 10 minutes to find a ride straight to Kaunas! There we had a good party ...
Kaunas, Lithuania salvo... and not so bad after all. this is what travelling is all about right - overcoming unexpected situations?!...... i was going to go to rumsiskes today, which is an open air museum that is a recreation of lithuanian village life about 100 years or so ago. but i woke up with a bit of a sore throat and headache so after a trip to the out of town shopping center this morning to get another electric plug adaptor to replace the one i left at the last hostel (doh ...
Kaunas, Lithuania eolr... I watched as the trolley bus driver connected the electric up to the bus. Two prongs on top of the bus have to be negotiated onto overhead wires. Interesting. Back to town. I thought about going to the museum of Chiune Sugihara. He was a Japanese diplomat who issued thousands of visas for transit to Japan for Jews during the war, as the Russians would only let Jews leave if they had a valid visa out of Lithuania and into another country ...
Kaunas, Lithuania sarahbooth... presented itself to us. As we approached the structure it was hard to tell it was actually on an island; the only hint was the bridge connecting the castle entrance to another nearby island. This, of course, would be the only way to get to the castle in the summer months. But that would be too boring; we much preferred the way we did it. It was a shame then that after all that the castle was closed and we were limited to taking a few pictures ...
