      ... non-pasta lovers!) we took a trip to the Lido which is another island and has a beach for Venetians to enjoy and returned by a different route to see other aspects of the islands.

      We took in the Rialto bridge (the black wooden infill at each arch is actually the back of the shops which face inwards and there are steps at the outer edges and in the middle)

      Sadly, today was our last day in Italy. As worn out as we were feeling, we weren't ready to go home! Rain was in the forecast for today but we never saw any, though the wind was blowing strong most of the day, making the seas and canals choppy (we felt like we had sea legs all day, like we'd come off a cruise ship).

      ... so I was just going to wander about the 2 islands. I was disappointed that I had to cancel my tour of the glass factory yesterday but at least I wasn't in a position to feel obliged to make a purchase from them. Came across a factory that was about to give a demonstration on some glass work. The guy first made a vase by glass blowing and then made a horse by using tongs to shape the molten glass.
