A taster of Croatian boating life

A travel blog entry by anlnewby on Jun 14, 2015

... We found a beautiful spot in the front of the boat and settled in. There was a mix of people, but mostly younger friends or couples, and no children. Our first stop was the volcano, but only after we enjoyed our first cold beer. The volcano took about 30 minutes to walk up and we had quite a sweat on by the top cause it was so hot. It is an active volcano, but dormant and it last erupted in the 1950's. There was a beautiful view from the top. This is always where Adam had his beer ...

... after picking up some more passengers from the old port we headed out to the island of Nea Kameni in the centre of the caldera. This is the centre of the volcano with 7 craters. The large one in the middle of the island is active. Once on the island David, Ruth & I started the hike up to the first crater. After an explanation from our guide Ruth decided to head back down to the boat as her knee was hurting so David & I continued up with the ...

... definitely ate our fare share!

We only had one full day to explore the beautiful island of Santorini so we decided to hire a scooter to fit it all in. We went to see the red beach, the white beach and the black beach, we had small whole fried fish for lunch up on a hill with a great view out over the ocean and we enjoyed a mojito at one of the many bars running along the sand where hundreds of beach umbrellas and sun beds are set up for tourists. We ...

... was sandblasting us with volcanic pumice stones to the point where we ducked behind a hill taking an alternate trail. Just as we arrived at the first little settlement on the walk back the wind reached hurricane strength blowing over parked motorcycles, breaking branches and blowing all of the stuff in the shops all over the streets. We really couldn't continue and ducked into ...
