On the platform waiting for Polskibus.com I meet Tero, a Finn coming to Zakopane from his current home in Krakow for the day, before deciding on a longer trip next weekend. Upon arrival we do the honourable thing and get a train up the nearest mountainside to admire the view with a beer. The town looks better from far away. It is set up purely to feed, water, house ...

... we rented a small cabin “domek” in a campsite within the city.
Apart from being very cold, (the municipality had shut off the central heating) it was adequate. Next door there was a travelling amusement park complete with flashing lights, thudding music, the loud whirring of insane rides accompanied by the mandatory shrieks from
passengers. Fortunately it closed at a reasonable hour and behind it, ...

... was occurring after the ski season, so the chairlift we counted on to transport our walkers to the walk start was not running. Our walk planning therefore started with a 2 kilometer climb up a muddy access road where we intersected a trail along the ridgeline. The objective was a lake nestled in a valley on the opposite side of the ridge, and Tatra views as we trekked comfortably along the ridgeline were magnificent. A late, Easter weekend snow had deposited a ...
