So I thought it had been a while since we wrote, and indeed it has been. Since writing last, we did make it to Brasov, Romania and we decided we liked it so much in Transylvania that we arranged a brief period of work. For the past week we have been assisting with the construction of a straw bale house in the town of Salicea, Romania. I am now sitting in the 'warm room' (room with a wood fired oven) of our very welcoming Austrian hosts' home. If I stand on my tip toes I can see Cluj ...

... watch tv in the kitchen again but this guy kept talking to me. He seemed drunk. He was talking about this weird stuff that I should go visit Pakistan and that he can't be let in the USA. He was like do you want to know why? I didn't but I responded with if you want to tell me. If you go to Iran or Iraq, the USA won't let you in. I'm not going to bore you Gentle Readers. I watched some more TV and went to ...

... forms of transport & partly finished villas are everywhere to be seen. These are surely a sign of an absent workforce who send money back home. Building projects happen as & when..

        * We drive into the hills known as Transylvania. It is a wonderfully rural route. We see many more horse & carts. Farmers & their families are busy in the fields getting the hay ready. There ...

        Day 41: Training through Romania

... pull out window T.T. I didn't realize this until towards the end of the train ride; better late than never!

The hotel is pretty close to the train station, but the neighborhood is extremely sketchy. There is a corner where kids wait and approach asking for money. They look about 5-7 years old.

Checking in was pretty straight forward. Air conditioning cost extra, so we plan to just sleep without sheets.

... also was cash only (though they said in the next few weeks they would start accepting VISA payments).

We passed by a few religious buildings, the town theater, the city’s central square, and a memorial. The main part of Cluj-Napoca is relatively small and we walked around most of the town within the afternoon. We stopped by McDonalds to get a meal because it comes with a free World Cup Coca-Cola souvenir glass =).
