Avenida Victor Larco 123, (Boqueron) Huanchaco Huanchaco, Peru
We decided we wanted to find somewhere to stop en route where we could just completely relax, and enjoy our last few days in Peru, and as we hadnt seen a beach on all our travels so far, we opted for Huanchaco. Nearby Trujillo has many archaelogical sights to see, but to be fair we were all sightseed out for a while!
It was perfect; a nice beach, very chilled out, lovely hostel with hammocks and all we had to do was cross the road to be on the beach. The weather was not great, very cl...
So we left the peaceful mountains of Huaraz and headed for the more tropical northwest coast. Today was by far the most adventuresome that we have been with buses. We just got up, checked out and got a cab into one of the bus terminals in Trujillo. As for the previous days we spent our first day wondering around town and setting up tours for the next day. Dinner was good and the view and the weather was a welcome change although it was windy during the day and the night got pretty cool. We fi...

Chevere (this means cool if I have not already spoken of it),
This place is chevere, along with bacang, fitie and mostro. They all mean cool.
On the trip to here was the one that I will never forget. The Shamen in Huancabamba told us not to take the next night bus, and me being ever the skeptic decided to take his advice!!! Shows my averse attitude toward superstition. In any case the next day taking the bus was fine but then Tamara (someone I met on the Shamen experien...
A 10 hour bus ride with 4 (!) movies brought us up the coast, along the endless deserted coastline to Trujillo and we spent two days relaxing and visiting the old ruins that have been excavated.
One is Chan Chan, the biggest adobe city in the world, of which one temple has been more ore less fully excavated (they built a new one every time their king died and had been buried with his whole family...). You can see a lot of teh old wall decoration and old structures there and also visit...
I spent a few days in Quito and met my friend Mauricio . He is an Andean Musician and he and 10 ther very well known musicians from Central and South America, Cuba had a concert at the teatro Sucre, it was incredible show! I picked my mother up in guayacil on the 14th and we made our way to mancora. The surf was small, expensive and we didnt really like the place so we caught another bus down to Hunachaco, there are famous ruins here called Chan Chan and the longest wave in the world called C...
Huanchaco, Huanchaco, Peru jinseijutaiGot myself way behind again it seems. Chicama was a cool little beach village, about 15 tourists there only because its home to one of the longest left point breaks in the world so it brings the surfers. So a couple of nights there hanging out with some cool guys then south to Huanchaco, another beach village just outside Trujillo. 2 nights of beach parties, and one day doing my first Peruvian historical tourist stuff. Checked out Chan Chan, a Chimu ruin constructed of (from what i could work...
Huanchaco, Peru katiemaree104Our bus from Huaraz arrived in the to Trujillo early in the morning and Alicia and I took a taxi straight away to the nearby beach town of Huanchaco. We checked into the cheap and relaxed Naylamp hostel which was so close to the sea that we could hear the pacific waves crashing in the night. Huanchaco itself is fairly quiet but we enjoyed some walks along the beach watching the fishermen on their traditional caballitos, reed kayaks. The seafood in Huanchaco was very fresh and I had some excel...
Huanchaco, Peru mrjoeArrived in Huanchaco on the night of 30 December. As we've now reached the beach and looks like we'll be getting a bit of sun I decided to shave the beard off. Figured I didn't want to be heading back in a month with a tan on the top half of my face, and a white "shadow" of the beard. Huanchaco is a fishing and surfing village on the coast about 8 hours north of Lima, about 15km from Trujillo. The fishermen row out in reed "surf" boats, fish with nets and then ride the surf back in to shore. ...
Huanchaco, Peru mullinsHuanchacho was as dead as a doornail when I arrived - there weren't even German boogie-boarders in Speedos to laugh at. In fact half the town seems to close on a Monday, so I guessed that this isn't an especially popular day of the week to come here. This was confirmed to me when I went and had breakfast at one of the few cafés that was actually open and the lady informed me that most people come here between Thursday and Sunday. Despite this, the hostel that had been recommended to me in Cha...
Huanchaco, Peru paul_lawston... wait a few minutes and group yourself with someone else if you're by yourself). It was a great guide, which really adds meaning to otherwise, a bunch of mud bricks and walls. Afterwards, we walked out aaall the way (ha) out to the highway and took our 1 sol bus to Huanchaco (instead of paying 10 or 12 soles for a taxi... Starved, we then had some great lunch at the "My Friend" hostel just up the street from the beach, for 7 ...
