We stayed two nights and had a wonderful stay. The Nayara suite had wooden floors, canopy beds, marble bathroom and secluded private garden with magnificent view of Volcan Arenal. Staff were great and the food delightful, especially the banana flambé courtesy of Juan Carlos, known to everyone as JC. He made our visit! Highly recommended.

Boy, was this luxurious! Our room was sort of hexagonol and absolutely vast with a wonderful balcony overlooking the volcano (unfortunately, it was shrouded in mist!) and with a hot tub. The restaurant was excellent, as was the food, and there are lots of places in the beautiful gardens to sit and relax. The resident, free-ranging parrots were very entertaining too!

I would definitely recommend staying here. the grounds are beautiful and well kept. our room was so luxurious with a hot tub on the balcony, two person shower indoors AND out doors, and a hammock to lay back and relax in. the people working here are really helpful as well. they took care of all our needs. they booked excursions, transportation, and spa services... anything we we wanted. they also have a few laptops set up in the lobby with internet which was also a great plus.

We arrived at Nayara Hotel- beautiful room with incredible indoor and outdoor showers! The outdoor shower was surrounded by stone walls and was huge.Flowers and birds everywhere with a view of the volcano right from our room. The sounds of the birds was incredible. We both recorded the morning birds with our iphones. It beat any nature CD that we …

... like the Mexican food back home. Around 9:30, we headed to Cerro Amigo, which is about a 3 hour hike that climbs very high into the cloud forest. As soon as we left paved roads, we encountered this friendly little dog. I couldn't believe it, but he hiked with us the entire way up. Often hiking ahead and sitting to wait for us at the bends of the road. It was adorable! And everytime Archie would venture off the road or trail, the dog was more than happy to either ...

... Science Center. Admission costs a hefty $17 for foreigners but only $6 for Costa Ricans. A staffer recommended some hiking trails for us, and we set out on our first hike at 11:20 on the Nuboso Trail at an elevation of about one mile.

It was a misty, chilly stroll to La Ventana overlook, which we reached after 62 minutes. I finally got GPS reception in the clear here and turned on Runkeeper to track the rest of the ...

Also, the cocoa. We sampled some raw cocoa beans, they too are sweet and slimy, but slighty more slimy than sweet. Our tour guide crushed up some cocoa beans that had been dried and added some delicious ingredients, the most prominent one being black pepper. The finished product ended up tasting solely of pepper, but I imagine the cocoa alone is very good.
