The Nayara Hotel was 5-Star. Everything was first class from check-in to check-out. Our room at this hotel was about as large as our little cabin in the woods. This accommodation came with our bicycle trip and was luxury with a capital L. Cool vanilla scented towels for our foreheads and beautifully presented tall glasses of juice as we walked in to register. Things went uphill from there.

We stayed two nights and had a wonderful stay. The Nayara suite had wooden floors, canopy beds, marble bathroom and secluded private garden with magnificent view of Volcan Arenal. Staff were great and the food delightful, especially the banana flambé courtesy of Juan Carlos, known to everyone as JC. He made our visit! Highly recommended.

Boy, was this luxurious! Our room was sort of hexagonol and absolutely vast with a wonderful balcony overlooking the volcano (unfortunately, it was shrouded in mist!) and with a hot tub. The restaurant was excellent, as was the food, and there are lots of places in the beautiful gardens to sit and relax. The resident, free-ranging parrots were very entertaining too!

I would definitely recommend staying here. the grounds are beautiful and well kept. our room was so luxurious with a hot tub on the balcony, two person shower indoors AND out doors, and a hammock to lay back and relax in. the people working here are really helpful as well. they took care of all our needs. they booked excursions, transportation, and spa services... anything we we wanted. they also have a few laptops set up in the lobby with internet which was also a great plus.

Our hotel, Nayara Spring, was the haven of tranquility and beauty that we deserved each afternoon following the many challenging activities we did in Arenal National Park.
Two hours of zip lining above the rain forest certainly got the adrenaline going! Whizzing way above the thick bush and even above caracas birds is an incredible sensation. …

We were in the La Fortuna/Arenal area for 3 days. A study in contrasts. Fancy, amazing hotels. Long bike rides that were totally challenging for both of us but fun and interesting too. This entry summarizes this part of the bike trip. I did the hanging bridges with Kenji and his Dad Curu and our guide Nando and that will be documented on the photos …

... it's warm and humid. Each street is packed with tour information, hostels/hotels and plenty of older American and Canadians. We have a massive cook up at the hotel and very quickly progress to food coma stage and Leesh is out like a light. We chill out for couple hours to escape the humid air and head back outside and watch the small part of the sunset we get while watching the volcano and the eagles flying above. We spend some time soaking ...

A long and slow bus journey takes us up into the highlands of Costa Rica. The last two hours are particularly painful as the bus creeps up a poorly maintained dirty road. We arrive at 8pm. It's cloudy, damp and cold (they don’t call it the Cloudy Forest for nothing!). In Monteverde, some friends from home are joining us for their holidays and will travel with us for two weeks...we are really looking forward to seeing ...

Yesterday was the last day of school for the girls at La Creativa, and emotions were running high. The frequent tears when we got here of wanting to go back home have changed to tears of sadness at saying goodbye to classmates and teachers. We are so glad that this experience has turned into such a positive one for the girls and that they feel such ...
