So Mom, Torrey and Scott arrived last Saturday and we had a wonderful few days travelling around Madrid and exploring the sites. It is so true (and funny) what my mom said about visitors, you never really see your own city until you have visitors to share it with. Though I had seen many of the sites around Madrid the first few weeks I was here, I was in such a whirlwind those first few weeks that it wasnt until this past week that I was able to really enjoy and ...

After a 6 hour drive, (we´ve now covered around 1,600miles since leaving Bmth ) we enter Granada just b4 dark. Granada is the gateway to the Sierra Nevada, and our intention is to stay 2nights, mainly so we can spend one day in the Alhambra. We pitch our tent just b4 dark, the campsite conveniently located 5km outside Granada. We immediately notice a sharp (can see our breath!) drop in temperature, so after a camp meal and a couple of ...
... fall I saw colors of Autumn. I love it. When we arrived to Granada the first thing that went through my head was that it was quite different than Malaga. The bus drive parked the bus in front of our hotel which was in the center of the city and we had about ten minutes to go to the bathroom. I did that but then I thought that I would have gotten a better first experience in Granada by quickly leaving the group and walking down the road. I´m glad ...

YEAH. So anyway, they knew of a sweet tapas place, so we went for a few sangrias and ate some marinated garlic mushrooms with a baquette and some ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands sromanuck... The mood was light again. It was here that I had one of my Moments. I have written of these Moments before, but in short, it is a very brief moment in time (a matter of seconds) when the tangible world leaves me; when reality takes a smoke break and my head is a clear blue sky. These Moments happen about once a year if I am lucky. My subconscious and I come out from the storm of life and we look at each other with squinty eyes. At first ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands teemoshi... we were told there were 350 tickets available for the morning and 1250 for the afternoon. We knew there was a credit card line and it moved quicker by about 3/4 of an hour, but we were still surprised when there were only 150 morning tickets left and we had only moved 10 metres. After three ands a half hours and some queue jumpers we were at the ticket window. We had our 20 euro (40 Australian) ready when the French couple we had ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands jill-cam... in as it was close to most sites. We meandered through the Albaicin District. It was the only area that was spared during the Reconquista therefore lots of narrow little streets and interesting buildings etc: Currently it houses bazarre like streets with tiny shops, and unique restaurants. Many African & Middle Eastern types of food - quite tasty. I am using a new keyboard, am struggling & wasting precious internet time - sorry for any typing errors etc.
Granada, Spain and Canary Islands travelmenu... inside of the huge palace. It really hit home to see how many Arab houses, mosques and baths were destroyed to make room for Catholic cathedrals and palaces. I have studied my Spanish history a bit and always have understood the complete lack of tolerance that the Catholics demonstrated when they retook Granada from the Arabs in 1492, but when I actually saw how much Arab history had been simply destroyed, it was quite depressing to ...
Granada, Spain gibby186x... The view from the top of the hostel was intoxicating, with a clear shot at the Sierra Nevada (which pale in comparison to the Rockies..) and a good view of all of Granada.
An interesting observation of the city was the plethora of amazing graffiti - there were of course some annoying "taggings" but some of the spray art was nothing but impressive.
We ventured to the Monasterio de la Cartuja, a monastery founded by a Christian warrior named El Gran Capitan ...
