    I celebrated at Mom's with a good book, Lifetime movies (murder & mayhem, not sappy), and pistachio cake. She even let me have the gooey center pieces - quite possibly because she saw what happened when The Nightmare Nanny didn't get her way.

    Here in Fort Madison, Iowa (my hometown) packing snacks for the trip. Costco visit (thanks Julie & Nevaeh) yielded enough granola bars and salted nut rolls to grow very tired of them forever.     ... knew the challenge that this campground would provide but we decided the reward of being right on the Mississippi River was worth the challenge....which was a railroad track about 100' behind the campsites. Trains run 24/7 here and there evidently aren't any rules or considerations for night vs day use of the train's horns.

    ... to Mt. Sterling, IL. I was really hoping we'd encounter a Starbucks or a Dunkin' Donuts in the very least, but it wasn't meant to be....an hour and fifteen minutes of cornfields later, we arrived in Mt. Sterling, population 1900, and settled into a McDonald's for their wi-fi. We're staying at the fairgrounds tonight and if they'll let us, we're going to stay there the whole weekend too.
