First night out on the town in Croatia

We awoke this morning to bright
sunshine for the first time on this trip and headed back to the same
beach we'd seen at dusk the night before. All I can say is wow! The
place was amazing, with crystal clear waters and barely anyone around
as it's only accessible by boat or a longish walk from town this
place was ...

A rainy day in Sibenik

As planned, I decided to take a day trip to Sibenik, seeing as I had already visited most of Zadar. I got there after a 2-hour bus ride and went straight to the Cathedral of St.James, a World Heritage sight. The cathedral is known for being built entirely out of stone, which comes from the island of Brač - the same place that supplied the stone to build the US White ...

... Sibeniku linna sisse sõites satun kohe tasulisse parklasse. Ainus hotell, mille leian, ehmatab juba uksel sildiga, mille kohaselt kogunevad seal regulaarselt rotarid.

Sibenik Saves Winnie

After enjoying a nice relaxing couple of days in Omis, it was time to head to Renault in Split to sort our little (or not quite so little we will keep being reminded!) Winnie out! Whilst at camp Galeb in Omis, we met a very nice cockney woman, Karen, who now lives in Germany with her husband & children, & was also there with her friend Michael, who lives in London, but originally from Northern Ireland. We had some good long chats with them, and learning how ...

... the geography, a sadness, As if the loneliest and happiest island was plucked from the sea and placed between this isthmus. There was no happiness on this rock. I could hear her pebbles beneath me whimper Her lungs suffocating for fresh air, Her knubby arms weeping for an unhindered stretch. However, I found comfort under her gazebo Perhaps because it helped sheltered the noise from across ...

Pokin' Around Post-Yugoslavia

... a bearded, fiery Islamic holy man gave way to this kind, baby-faced young guy who likes U2. Later in the afternoon, we heard Izudin chant the "call to prayer" as he does five times a day [Go to the "picture" section and click on the AVI file to hear Izudin]. Only in BiH have we occasionally been lucky enough to hear a "live" call to prayer (usually people seem to make due with tape recordings). Izudin admitted that he was trying to quit smoking as he found it winded him and ...

Sibenik

We began our journey down the Dalmatian coast here in Sibenik. We got here after a 6 hour train ride through Croatia. Nice fast train, very different from Thailand and Cambodia. There are very few hotels in Croatia, and the ones here are very expensive, so most people (including us) do homestays, where you rent a room from a local family. The local travel agency hooked us up with this nice family and we stayed in their basement, which included ...

... went to Togir and checked it out. Yet another quaint old town with streets of marble. Seemed to be a big yachting port, lots of nice yachts from all over. I had a leisurely afternoon hanging at a park along the port. The weather has improved its warm and dry today. I had a comment from Maryann about the food and the people. The people have been very friendly and helpful. Most everyone speaks some english, rarely has the language been a problem.
