The next day we arranged to meet Nicolette, Pip, Irrii and Martin again and catch the local bus to Trakai. Trakai is a local town mostly surrounded by lakes and is very popular in the summer. After an hours journey we had arrived. We walked through the old town until we reached ...

... annexed part of Russia. Both countries require visas and I had neither, which wasn't originally the plan. Back when I first devised the approximate route through Europe I had included a trip through Minsk and a few days in St. Petersburg a little later on. But the Belarusian consulate rules state that a person applying for a visa must use the consulate in their home country (I was still in Australia at the time) which would mean I'd have to fly back to the UK just to procure ...
