... orange and before we knew it the time had come to check in at the next hostel.

After eventually finding it hidden in a small courtyard with little signage we decided to have an early tea before heading out to climb the old castle and watch as dusk descended on Vilnius. We sat on the castle walls for a while and enjoyed watching all the lights come on and seeing the city come to life. Once it was properly dark we climbed back down and enjoyed the street ...

Sad news

Extremely sad and shocking news today: My beloved Bapa, my grandfather, died last night of a sudden heart attack.

If you're reading this blog, you probably already know that, and are very likely a member of my family. This isn't really the place for me to write about Bapa and how close we were and how much I'm going to miss him. There will be more appropriate places for that. Suffice to say that I'm really beside myself with grief right now. We all are.

... the palace of the Duchies of Vilnius. This has an underground museum which shows the remains of the original cellars. The four floor museum gives a very extensive history of the palace and the Duchies and all that affected them- this did become a bit tedious by the end of the first floor! After this we went next door to Vilnius Cathedral which was surprisingly plain but has an imposing exterior. Across the square from the palace and Cathedral lies the Belfry tower ...
