... to see the opera Romeo and Juliet. The rest of us visited the Museum of the Great War. We then waited for Raphael, our taxi driver, to pick us up, and then headed back to the hotel. Tonight we had a nice dinner. We said goodbye to Viv, who is heading home by train. The rest of us will meet for breakfast tomorrow and then four of us will drive with Raphael to the Marco Polo airport at 8:30. Our plane is at 1:15. We'll likely do one more entry to the blog on our way ...

This hike goes around three famous towers and is very popular. We drove up to the Rifugio Auronzo and started out walking around the three towers. All around, in every direction, the views were spectacular. In one particular direction it looked just like Mordor from The Lord of the Rings trilogy! The limestone and dolomite rock walls are eroded in amazing patterns with sheer vertical walls and jagged crests along the skyline. The colouring is pinkish where the rock is dolomitic. There ...

We went for a ride in the afternoon - riding west from Corvara over the Passo Gardena which connects Corvara in the Val Badia with Sëlva in the Val Gardena on the west side. It has an elevation of 2,136 m above sea level. We then went south over Passo Sella between the provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol in Italy. It ...

... and Friulian. It is most unusual looking. There is a heavy Tyrol influence in this part of Italy, in terms of architecture and farm buildings. Everyone has huge barns filled with chopped firewood, hay, skins, room for livestock and I suspect their sausages are hanging from the ceiling. There is so much preparation for the long winter months and it appears that they are as self- sufficient as ...

... many impressive mountains, an incredible canyon/waterfall, and the usual complement of beautiful alpine flowers.
Upon our return to the hotel and a check of the weather forecast for tomorrow (rain), we set out into the village for some serious shopping - Bob for a rain jacket and me for a warm shirt. We were both successful, so we're now kitted out for whatever tomorrow holds.
Had an awesome dinner of lasagne, followed by curried turkey and rice, and some ...
