We are now approaching the Saxon "Switzerland" on the border with the Czech Republic. This is mining country and reminds me if the Colorado mining area. Silver and a bunch of rare earth metals were hauled out of this region until the mines died. So after a very late night last night it was up early today to head out for a 9 1/2 hour excursion. We were headed to the spa town of Karlovy Vary- about 20 kilometers from the German border. The town was originally settled by Germans but now is heavily populated by Russians. We set off quite early after breakfast for the Dolomites. The weather was kind with warm temperatures and sunny skies. We met 2 other riding friends Justis and Norbet who were joining Ric and Bryan on the 4 passes ride. Richard was pretty tired by now and wasn't sure he would make the 1 st pass let alone 4! If someone says, Germany is a flat country, they never biked through there. I crossed the "Fichtelgebirg", the little "Erzgebirge", plus heaps of hills not specially mentioned, but with all my luggage at least challenging.
After passing the town of Hof, I then came to the boarder Bayern /Sachsen .
I did take little notice at the sign there, that until November 12th 1989, Germany and Europe were divided at that point.

I am in Zwickau, 40 km west of Chemnitz.
Will leave veery soon towards Dresden, a good 100 km distance.
Plan to have a day rest in Dresden, if everything works out.
